925 ring VS 1949 dime

yowow#1

New member
Just messing around around with my VX3 a little, and i noticed in coin & jewelry the VX3 hammered a 925. ring and a silver 1949 dime. But in deep silver the VX3 hammered the 1949 silver dime BUT would not even pick up the 925. silver ring... Question is.. Does anyone have any answers as to why this is. would it have something to do with the 'way rings are made, 'round circles with no middle? I don't think it's the VX3. just spitballing, but serious about answers if you please.

Your concern is with the pre set deep silver prog....There is too much discrimination in this prog ie; reject -95 to +64 it only accepts +65 to +95... Where as the pre set c&j prog accepts 0 to +94....Although you say the ring is marked 925 there can be a big difference in the amount or quality of the sliver used in the coin/s & rings.....Your c&j prog picked up the ring therefore in this case the ring must fall somewhere between 0 to +64 VDI No's...

Check the VDI No of the ring in the c&j prog & make a note of the VDI No.... Open up the discrimination in the deep silver prog too accept more, I have my discrim in the deep silver program set accept +12 to +94 this finds me tiny hammered silver coins over here in the UK.....Just keep opening your discrim to accept more to suit your finds/conditions...

Old Metal detecting proverb The more you use (discrim) the more you loose (depth & finds)...

Hope this helps regards Napper...

Napper may have nailed it. Let us know what the ring ID's at.

Thanks Napper and Rob for your response, much appreciated. I opened up the disc in deep silver all the way to iron and still nothing. The vdi in C&J is 56-57 and same in Hi-Pro mode and 64 in coin mode. It actually nulls in deep silver. tried two other machines and felt the i.d was okay, one with id # and the other has no display just disc knob turned to almost full reject until it it is rejected. maybe it is the alloy in the ring the VX3 doesn't like. thanks for responding. HH

Restore the Deep Silver to factory and then lower the discrimination. If it reads in the other programs it will read in deep silver with lower discrimination.

Thanks Rob, that worked, now it picks up the ring and i.d same as the other programs, your information is gold. so much appreciated. Apparently i had the program messed up, don't know what i did. You are the man. Thank You.
Rob could you tell what it was that i had messed up, just in case i encounter this problem again. Can't thank you enough..

No I can't tell what you changed. It could be anything. Now if it ever happens with any program you now know how to handle it.
