92.5 Silver Compression Ferrule Found By Tesoro Golden uMax?

tabman

I almost tossed this hefty silver ring. It was so badly tarnished when I found it, I thought it was a compression ferrule. After scrapping on it with my finger nail I saw a bit of silver. I've been cleaning on it for a good while now and it's still not clean. This ring must have been in the ground for some time to get that tarnished. I hope that last compression ferrule I tossed a while back was a compression ferrule.

The Tesoro Golden uMax gets credit for finding this ring.

nice! heavy looking one!

yeah I got some plumbing to do,,,,could ya send that to me !!!!

Nice one tabman:thumbup: A lot of things look like junk until you do the clean up, don't throw anything away until you check it out! I about threw out a nice token one time until I cleaned it really good, it looked like a crappy zincoln. To clean things up I use a stiff nylon fingernail brush and soapy water, it won't damage the find and gets down to the patina fast but it will not not take off the patina.

The Tesoro Golden uMax strikes again, but this time it's a gold compression ferrule.:)

very good:clapping:, small womans ring? disc setting please? :)

Yes, it's a very small woman's ring. It won't even fit on my pinky finger. My wife says it's a wedding band and that no kid would be wearing something like that, even though it was found by some old pull up bars at an elementary school.

I had the discrimination knob set to the "preset" mark for most of the day. I also had the notch switch set to "narrow" so I wouldn't have to mess with digging those damn rotten zinc pennies. It was really hot and humid and digging all that can slaw and foil was wearing me down, so I turned the discrimination knob up enough and widen the notch to eliminate some more trash, but still be able to detect nickels. As soon as I made the change and made a few swings, I got a good solid hit. I thought for sure it was nickel with the way it sounded. Nope nice gold ring. I was lucky to get that ring. If the ring had been a little bigger or a little smaller it would not have come in under the nickel range and I would have walked right over it without hearing a beep.

I also found 55 coins for a total of $7.47. 22 quarters, 16 dimes, 5 nickels,12 pennies and a huge pile of can slaw and foil. Very few pull tabs and NO zinc pennies.

nice days hunting tabman :clapping: so you where set around 5c ? i don't have a golden have a Cibola just getting in the mood for hunting for rings and wondering what people set disc at for gold hunting the Cibola likes gold and silver have found a larger 18K ring set at tab but am starting to set at the mark under 5c and see what shows up no gold yet but 3 silver rings but prob would have found them at tab all part of learning the machine i guess i must say i do like beep dig machines all the bells and whistles can become confusing and am thinking a golden maybe next on my list but am waiting to see if they make a new one soon?

thanks again for the report all info is gratefully accepted.

Hey tabman, are you using the new golden with the more separated tones or the older model? I was just curious. Thanks.

It's the older model. The way I usually have it set up, I dig any beep regardless of tone. Most of the time I set the discrimination at the "preset" mark. That's in the foil range and is low enough that a really small super thin lady's 14k gold ring will be able to be detected. I normally set the notch to "narrow". Doing that eliminates most pull tabs and all zinc pennies. Most gold rings that are lost will fall in the foil and nickel range. Now when I get tired of digging foil and can slaw, I move the discrimination setting up far enough to just allow nickels to be detected and widen the notch so it will just allow nickels. Like I said earlier, I was very lucky that gold ring was in the nickel range, because I discriminated everything out below nickel and up to copper pennies, dimes and quarters. I need to get me a CleanSweep for my Golden. I can see it doubling my finds.

Today at a local elementry school, using the Golden uMax, I found 132 coins - 36 quarters, 53 dimes, 20 nickels, and 23 copper pennies. This was my first time at this school. I thought I was in a honey hole when my very first dig ten feet from the car was a 92.5 silver ring. The ground was really dry and hard. It was HOT and I was sweating all over the place.

The Golden will help you find gold, but you have to be willing to dig some foil, can slaw, a few modern pull tabs and nickels.
