9 volt lithium batteries ok to use?

JEF

troll
Can you use the 9v lithium batteries instead of alkaline in the Tesoro detectors? I just purchased a Tesoro Outlaw. It should be here on Tuesday. This is my first Tesoro detector.

I have used Lithium AAs in my Sand Shark and LST and also a 9 volt lithium in my Gold Bug.
They were ok but the AAs seemed to be unreliable in that one or two in the pack would fail without warning.
Also I feel that the slightly extra detecting time that they provided was not justified by the high extra cost, so I have gone back to good qual alkalines.

Just an opinion, not gospel.

Buy yourself some rechargeables. I've been using HF cheapies for over 3 years now in my 2 Tesoros, a Minelab and both pin pointers. I have the more expensive ones also from Batteries+ and haven't noticed any difference.
Rechargeables dont last quite as long, but who cares? Carry an extra. It makes no sense to pay the prices they want for batteries these days just to toss them out.

I was always kinda skeptical about rechargeable batteries. But when I got my Nokta Pro Pack it came with a charger and some rechargeable AAs. Let me tell you, it's the way to go. If my batteries go dead, I can plug the charger into my car and in a little bit I'm ready to go again. Soon as I get a second set of batteries to swap out, I won't even have to wait for the first set to charge. I haven't been in the Dollar General for batteries in months, lol!

I'll be getting a charger and a 9 volt setup for my Tesoros pronto.

9.6 volt 9 volt rechargables find them on erbay don't leave home without them save a fortune in the medium to long term.

Thanks for your answers. I think I will go with the rechargeable batteries. I just received my Tesoro Outlaw three coil package today. I bought it from A & S Company on ebay. My closest Tesoro dealer is over 100 miles away. It looks like it is going to be raining here for the next week, so I wont be able to get out with it for awhile.

I am only able to hunt from mid april to the end october in Maine, and a six pack of good regular ones with a 5 year shelf life last in that time. i dont use a pin pointer though. less than two dollars a month is not much. detecting is not a full time thing for me, just a recreational hobby on an odd week night and weekends when i'm able. so rechargeables are not a big deal for the cost of them. i have read that good regular batteries will last longer and have a slower rate of drain. where as a rechargeable will hold a bit more voltage to a point then drop off fast. where as regular ones will hold slightly less voltage for a longer period. i even trash them when down to three beeps. they do last a long time. people tell me pin pointers really eat them up.

I don't know if pin pointers eat up the batteries, mine seem to last forever. Rechargeables don't cost that much. About $10 for a Powerex from Batteries+ and $4 from HF. Even cheaper if you use a coupon. If I go to Safeway a 9v can cost as much as $7. Same for a 4 pk of AA's.
Everyone has their preference of what they want to use. Mine is rechargeables. When I'm not using them for detecting they get used in clocks, toys, etc.
Whatever you use, I hope you're having fun!

Well, Dollar General has those Eveready Gold alkalines at $2.5 per 9v. I have read the test results on them, they hold a good charge longer than Duracells or Energizers, So, they are at least adequate, and they last a really long time. So to me it is not much of an issue. Their AA are also inexpensive.

I use the NiMh AA recheagbles in my Infinium and they are fine but Alkalines go almost twice as long.
The Infinium charger is good for up to 1800mah rechargeables. If you use this charger to rechage 2000 to 2800mah batts the charger will overheat and I have known them to catch fire.
NiMh do not like being run flat between charges so keep them topped up between useages.
If they get hot while charging then your charger is pumping too much current into them and they will fail ahead of time.
