9 Volt batteries ---- Rechargeable type

Hi all,

I'm posting this here as I think this is the best area within the site to get some info / feedback.

I've been doing some research on the 9 volt battery (PP3) / 6LR61 / MN1604 type and the rechargeables (8.4v - 9.6v).

Need to ask if anyone has used 9.6 volt rechargeable batteries in their metal detector, and what, if any effects they have had using them.

Has anyone made an 8 cell 9.6v from AA or AAA batteries with good results ?

Does your detector use 2x 9 volt batteries ? (My Landstar does).

Would the 9.6v (in my case 19.2v, not sure if the unit uses the power combined or there are two separate circuits needing 9 volts each) harm the detectors electronics or is there a + / - threshold with voltages in them ?

Enclosed below is a pic of a battery that I have been thinking of ordering, has anyone used these or any 9.6v rechargeable NiMH battery in their detector ?

TIA.

Thank you Mark.

That link answered all my questions and more, you redeemed yourself with the help that you gave and are a credit to this site.

Once again, thanks.

I use the 9.6V Powerex batteries in my Time Ranger which uses two 9V batteries. I purchased them along with a Powerex rapid charger which came with power cord for the car, a 110V cord, a carry case and plastic battery case that holds 4 batteries. The charger will charge up to 4 batteries at a time, each on a separate circuit. As each battery is fully charged it drops down to a trickle charge. You can leave the batteries in the charger so they are always fully charged.

I think they are great and I have had good luck with them. The only difference I have found between the Powerex and alkaline is that when they start to get low they drop off really fast so you need to keep a couple of spares with you.

Keep in mind that not all batteries should be rapid charged as they could overheat or wear out before they should.
