9 IH day, including 1908-S

Hey all,

I'm still up in Minnesota. Found a 1892-O Barber half a little while ago. Got another key date coin last Friday.

I drove me pappy back to my home town last Friday. Drove around town a bit and found that they had removed some dirt to rebuild a playground near where the old courthouse used to stand.

Long story short found nine Indian heads- 1864,81,87,91,(2)92, 01,02, and the best was a 1908-S. Found the 1909-S last year. This coin is probably VF or better but has a scratch across the obverse. Don't think I did it.

Also found a 1902 barber dime. This one was laying right on the ground and saw it before I detected it. One of the 1892 IHs was the same. Got a couple of mercs. Only three wheats so I guess the rest of them may be in a dirt pile somewhere.

As always- convinced that there are many coins we miss because of depth and trash. Remove dirt and trash- more coins. Older coins.

Also got a 1874 2 Ore coin. Not sure which of the scandahoovian countries this belongs to. Will find out. It hit like a nickel but when I dug it thought I had a 2 cent piece.

Will post pics when I get me hands on a camera.

That is a nice bunch of IH with one nice one. The 2 Ore can it be Norwegian?? I have a couple of the 2 Ores and I thought they were Norwegian.

Great finds Chris and hope you can go back and find more.

Rick,

I'm pretty sure this one is Swedish, and that the Norweigen coinage for that year is skilling instead of ore. I know I have found some skilling coins but can't remember the dates.

Just read an article on Norwiegan coinage, they didn't seperate from Sweden until 1905; but I'm a little confused on the coins.

Still a good find and bet that coin has a story to tell.

This is a 1 Ore piece from Norway, one of the early decimal coinage issues. (100 Ore = 1 Krone or 30 Skilling.) The 1 Ore piece was made out of bronze. Any resemblance?

You found some Nice Finds by the sound of it. 1864, 1908-s Indian Head Pennies sure top them along with the 2-Ore Foreign Coin. Too bad you couldn't find out where the dirt was taken because there is plenty of Coins still there waiting to be found. I get my 2nd Alternator tomorrow (I just hope this one doesn't start to smoke and it works properly) so I am hoping to get out and find a few things during the week after work. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH.
