9 Gold, 9 Silver and...

Bavaria Mike

I'm on vacation, have a few days of use or lose and I'm not going to lose vacation, I actually save a few days so when it thaws, I can get out and shake that cabin fever. I headed out early this morning to a castle site, I want to detect around the outside perimeter. The castle is owned privately but is surrounded by state forests. It was built in the early 1300s as a residence for a Duke, survived several hundred years until the family died out. Driving to the site I could see snow was building up, by the time I got to the parking spot there was already 3" of snow and I still had to go up in altitude. This area is in the Stone Forest and this hunt on a good day would be very rough, considering the snow, no depth and stones wet and covered in snow, I called the hunt off, hung my head in shame and drove off in search of plan B. I remembered a camping site with a small lake nearby so I drove by it. The lake had been partially drained and the hunt was on! I didn't expect much as I did a water hunt here several years ago and didn't find much at all. Big surprise this time in perfect conditions for a swimming hole! Here's the lake, most finds were found in the middle of the swimming area.

This was really a nice modern treasure trove as I was pulling a coin or piece of jewelry every few targets. Dug a lot of trash as well, screw caps were kicking my butt however, it was an awesome hunt. I found 26.80 in Euro coinage ($35.00), a hand full of junk jewelry and 9 pieces of silver. They are all .925 silver but one ring which is 835.

Here are the best finds, 9 pieces of gold. Upper left is 18K/750 with a black onyx stone, my first 18K/750 ring. 4th ring upper left to right is 14K/585, has three small diamonds in it. The rest are 8K/333. Total gold weight was 17.4 gms, 18K/750 ring is only 1.6 gms. A quick figure equals about $380.00 in gold, just for grins. My wife somehow claimed all the gold rights, LOL, I consider it a bribe well paid and it will make my detecting life a little easier, LOL. FYI all, some of those gold rings hit at 4 and 6 on the XT70 VDI. HH, Mike

You always have very entertaining posts with great pictures! Hope to see more coming.

I think your gold per gram price is wrong. I just sold 18.1 grams of scrap gold on EBAY FOR 585.00 DOLLORS. ABOUT 32.50 A GRAM. That was last week.
METAL DETECTING IS MY NEW JOB.

Boy that makes for a good outing. 4 is always foil for me, but if I get a good tone with a 4 I dig, and it is still foil so far.
