9 by 8 concentric????

This is for those who bought a vaq. tej etc. with the 9by 8 coil. Would you recommend having it? I got the 11 by 8 on mine. All the webb sites that talk about the depth of these detectors were before the 11 by 8 dd was offered. Thinking about getting one,but there is so much neg. on concentric coils. That's all we had when I started in 70 ' s and we made out pretty good. I have a confession to make I used a Joey on my explorer for years thinking it was dd and I loved it .

Well I am on my second Tejon with the 9x8 coil and I love it. The target separation is as good as I have had on any detector even compared to smaller coils. I am getting good depth and it pinpoints really well for most targets in disc and if I get a tough one I use toggle AM.

As for depth all the testing I have done coil size does not make a huge difference on the Tejon. I only have 2 coils for mine, the 9x8 and the NEL Snake and that little snake does better depth on some targets than the 9x8 and others it is running a close second.

But I am like you I have wondered about how the 11x8 would do, but I just can't bring myself to buy one. I actually put that question out there back a couple of months ago, when I was looking to buy a new Tejon. But I found a nice used one and I am happy with it.

The 8" concentric is nice. I like it more than the 9x8. If your ground is mild the concentric's work great. Tesoro has unbelievable separation and the 8" and 9x8 concentric's are great in iron. The 8" is my main coil. I do want the Teoso 5x10 ws to though.

This is just my opinion based on my own experience and comments by others. The DD coils are okay and do offer a bit of a plus in mineralized ground as well as a bit more coverage in the one direction, but not near enough difference to use them exclusively for general detecting over a similar sized concentric which will usually give a bit better depth, better discrimination and better pinpointing.. Ultimately though, my philosophy is, if you like it, use it, doesn't matter whether you do things my way.

Just for the record-----The Coiltek Joey coil for the Explorers IS a DD (so you were right in thinking that for all those years)!:)----Whatever gave you the idea now that it isn't?------ALL of the coils for the Explorer/Etrac/CTX are DD's with the exception of one concentric coil Kellyco had FS for them some time ago.---Being a concentric, It apparently didn't "go over" well for the Explorer & I believe it was discontinued.-----I realize this is "off topic"---but----:)-------BTW, I like the 9X8" concentric coil best in that size range for the T & V.---------Del

I wasn't a big fan of the older DD coil. I really liked the 9x8 coil....the 9x8 coil found me some major treasure in trashy and non trashy areas with good depth and separation. The 12x10 older DD coil in my eyes just sucked for what I used it for.

Thank you everyone for the input ,I will get one on order soon. It was up and down on getting one ,I would read one review that said good things then another would be neg. ,I knew I would get the real answer here. The reason I thought the Joey was concentric is they call the orange one elliptical mono ,that's the one I have.

the mono would have been for a pulse machine SD, GP. GPX I would say and they looked the same so easy to mix up. bought one of those 8" mono's for explorer etrac just to satisfy my curiosity obviously they were not a big hit but now why would I let that stop me :buds: haven't used it yet so anyway we will see.

good and bad reports on everything detecting, the thought of juggling cats comes to mind when trying to get 2 detectorists to agree its not so easy to do :lmfao:

my advice buy both use both and keep both cant lose then :jump:

15 years ago mmmmmm I would have to strain my brain hard to remember things from that long ago I don't think a coil would have space in there :lmfao: so don't feel to bad
