8x6 SEF help needed with V3i

I used my new 8x6 SEF coil yesterday and have some questions. I notice the negative vdis are on the screen like -85 range even after ground balance. it seems the coils is super hot even at low settings of gain 6. Any suggestions on where to start with the setting would be helpful. It gets 12 inches on a quarter in air test. that is with rx 15 and boost on. What are suggested start settings for DISC and AM? ( I had DISC 90 and AM 85) I know all soils are different but need a starting point. I notice the lower VDIS run a nickel at 14 and some penny ring up ae little high. The quarters and dimes ring up the same. I run in 2.5 freq because I believe it is weak on 22.5.

"I run in 2.5 freq because I believe it is weak on 22.5"

What makes you feel it is problematic at 22.5? Did the 8x6 fail the rx15(without TX Boost on) in open air or something? Just try running it in a factory program such as Rellic, 3F, along with the rest of Relic's settings. The SEF runs with similar settings to say the 6x10 or the D2. Don't try to change a lot at once.

It ground balance fine. However, It will not GB in three freq with rx15 boost on. On the ground side of the balance. It will GB on R15 boost on on the 2.5 freq. I see a lot of ground chatter on the -50 to -95. What I have discriminated it out but on the display it goes quite a bit. I feel when I see all that the GB or settings are all off. It seems this coil has a longer learning curve than the others. I have 4x6, 6x10, 10x12 sef, 10 dd, 5.3 conc, 950, and 8x sef. I do think this coil is very hot and if set right will hit 10 in ground. Do you run RX15 while hunting? 3 freq or 2.5? I never use 7.5 in single mode. Does anybody else have better luck with 7.5 and 8x6?

The 6X8 is not V rated, in other words it is not nulled for the 22.5 frequency. If you can run it at RX10 or 12, the difference in depth is minimal compared to RX 15, maybe a fraction of an inch. If you can run RX15 with Boost off, it is considered a VERY good coil for not being V rated.

In 3 freq it can run about 11 rx boost off. is there a setting to help get rid of the visual negative numbers. it appears it is showing the soil content -80 to -85. I thought GB gets rid of that.

Just because the VDI is showing all VDI numbers does not mean your detector is accepting them all. If you don't want to see the rejected VDI numbers, turn on Visual reject. Page 44 in your manual.

I changed to visual reject and also changed to best data. The VDIS are much better with best data under 3 freq. Ran some stuff with air test to check vdis

You'd have accomplished almost all of these fixes by simply running a virgin factory program like coin, CJ or Relic. Boost is way over rated, especially at high gain. Why do you wish to try rx15 with boost for a GB?

This coil will find 9" deep pennies and that's in Texas with rx7-8, and that is an ability the 6x10 Whites coil never did for me over two years.

Trust the 8x6 and don't stress pushing the gain.

Good luck. martin

Btw, if your 8x6 came used, the last owner may have abused it. They don't like hot cars during the summer.

Turn that boost off. That will cause problems. Also back off on your gain.

Thanks for all the help. I have tuned my detector up and will go out this weekend. Let you all know how it goes. Without the group many of us would be lost. With help it takes about one year to get the v3i. Maybe because I am building a custom program.
