80 year old church.

I couldn't post last night. The site was down.
Yesterday morning I went out for 3 hours to an old church.

The conditions were terrible. The soil was very dry and filled with coal debris and aluminium nails.

I ran into two critters. One was a snake laying in a depression and the other was this box turtle.

One good thing, I didn't find one pull tab in the grass. I found a couple of pull tabs in the gravel parking lot. The id was all over the place. There was lots of the rusty iron hits, low to real high. Any hit I got that went from iron to less then max. high, I dug. It seemed nothing id right. I got a cent as a solid hit on nickel one time. but most came in at pull tab. David said he likes to see the trash. This trash total is for you David.

This cast iron piece had a brass, I think, plating on it. It almost looks like gold plating. It has tabs on the side. No idea what it is.

This is the clean total. At first, I thought the washer was a token because of the wavy edge. I found three wheat's; 1954, 1946, 194-? The 1942 nickel isn't a war nickel. All my war nickels have come out bright. This nickel came out black. I threw it into the tumbler for a while.

Do you have a sniper. Looks like a place you might have to work for a while to get rid of the trash to get to treasure. Looks like you are on the right track finding the wheat's and nickel:thumbup:

Yes, I have a sniper. The coal in the ground is my biggest problem. The minerals here are killing me. 4" is my max. depth. The ground is so hard now, I don't think I could dig any deeper.

I know what it is like. I have lived in Dallas. I went to collage there. It is either too dry or too wet. You can walk across wet clay and grow 2" taller.

Sissy snake.Thought maybe you bumped up against a rattler or copperhead. Lot of them in that neck of the woods. In Arizona where I used to live they have eleven different kinds of rattle snakes so one has a choice.
