8"x6" SEF (Butterfly) coil

Texas-Steve

New member
I was wondering if anyone has tried out the 8"x 6" Sef (butterfly coil). And also how does it compare to the 5.3 coil? I am trying to decide on a new coil for trashy areas and I just needed some information. My ground is low mineralization.

The 8X6 works good and I'm not much of a small coil guy, but I was impressed with it.

Can you tell me if it works in all 3 freq? And do you know if the vdi numbers are the same as the 10" DD ?

Here is a review I did a year ago. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?66,1340713

It worked fine in three frequency, best data and correlate but I did not try each single frequency. Since only White's coils are V rated, I suspect the 22.5 will be weak if you use it in 22.5 single frequency mode.

I sent a newer 6X8 to Rob and he should be getting it one of these days, maybe he can put it through the single frequency paces down there in sunny Texas.

I might add that the VDI's seemed close enough that I had a good idea what the target was, but being an aftermarket coil, they might be off a couple of numbers from the White's coils. I seldom pay much attention to the VDI's, the deeper the target, the more the variance.

It left San Antonio today, I should have it Monday and will report.

Thanks all for the info. I bought a 5.3 but I was looking for something a little bit bigger. I'll probably buy a 8x6 later on. Thanks again for the info.

Oh yea, thanks for the link on the butterfly review Larry, I liked it. the 8x6 will definitely be my next coil.

You will not regret it....it's one of the best decisions i've ever made in metal detecting......hope you get the same results when you get yours.
