8" or 5.75" coil for the compadre?

New member
which is the better coil for treasure work? i ordered the 8", as it was suggested by the sales bloke. was it the right choice?

Hay Peter,

As far as I know, they only offer a 5.75" concentric coil for the Compadre here in the US. I didn't know they
offered an 8" coil in Perth, Australia.

Is the 8" coil hard wierd where you can not change it? What does it look like?

The Compadre retails for $189 here, and the dealers give about 20% disscount. We get them for $152 new.

Do your dollars have the same value as US dollars?

HH,

The original Compadre had a 7" coil here in the states. Worked well with that.

i bought the tesoro from wodonga. which is on the nsw-vic border. it is offered with 5.75 coil OR the 8' coil. i assume that they are standard options from factory..

What I do wish to know is why? It would seem that it wouldn't be a big deal to have the same kind of connector as say the Silver. My guess is that the detector has the coil factory balanced to that particular detector for optimum performance due the the Fixed GB.

By hard wiring the coil they save x dollars in parts and y dollars in labor and are able to offer an excellent performing machine at a great price.

I suspect it's a good trade off to keep the price down.

I don't think it would be too difficult to mod the compadre with a quick disconnect for coil changes.

Labor and materials might be a few dollars less than buying another one with the alternate coil!

Hay Peter-d,

Maybe none of us have had the chance to use an 8" on a Compadre.

I think the 8" brown coil with a hole in it is a good coil.

Most may not agree but I may like it more than the 9X8.

It has good depth on the Silver and good sensativity.

HH,

I like the 8" donut coil also. Have had excellent results with it on 2 Silver Sabre umax detectors.

So summary :
IF I ORDER A COMPADRE WILL I BE ABLE TO CHANGE COIL OR NOT????
IF IS UNREMOVEABLE HOW CAN YOU TAKE IT TO PIECES????????????????

It's a good news/bad news situation.

Bad news is. If you buy a Compadre, you can not change the coil your self.

Good news is. It already comes with the best trash bustin and all around best

coil. When people install the 5.75, they seldom, if ever take it off.

Best way to take advantage of the situation is to have more than one metal detector.

That's not that big of a deal when you concider that you can get a used Compadre

for less than a new 5.75 coil.

To me it's a no brainer. If I could buy just one. It would be the Compader. Don't want

to be without one. Not even a deeper MD with lots of knobs on it. It's deep enough,

and I can put knobs on it if I want to. Just lOOk.

Pretty slick huh....

HH,

Connectors are expensive and I always thought they did that do keep the selling cost down. Yes, you can have a different coil put on it, but you would have to send it back in to the factory if you didnt want your warranty to be voided. But that said, the 575 coil it comes with is a little spitfire!

KOOL!..custom compadre!
