8 months later...my thoughts on the G2

It's been quite a while since I have posted on this forum about the G2, so I thought I would give my opinion on the performance of the G2 after 8 months of heavy use. Hopefully this info will be of use to anybody considering one or on the fence.
First, 95% of my hunting time is for CW relics...the other 5% old coinshooting. I have been detecting for about 30 years and have used many many different detectors. Now, my G2 thoughts:
The G2 is the most stable detector I have ever used ...even at full sensitivity/gain. Actually it would have been great if FT had given us the ability to drive the gain up more towards the point of instability.
The target ID is outstanding...the accuracy is amazing right up just about the limit of it's depth
Depth in disc mode seems to max out on a 58 cal minie ball at about 10"
Depth in AM is REALLY deep....personal best for me in AM...a minie ball at 15"
The G2 is very easy to learn to use and truthfully I have never picked up a detector for the first time and instantly "bonded" with it....love the modulated audio...listen for the faintest whispers!
On silver coins, it does fairly well..deepest for me was a seated dime at 8"...weak soft but very digable signal. A friend I hunt with just got a seated half-dime at 7" with his G2.
My complaints: coil durability is not that great. My first coil failed just one month in...my replacement coil is now starting to have issues with the wires in the cable at the control head plug. My other complaint is that a little better depth in disc mode, 2 more inches of depth would make it an absolutely perfect detector for me. I am giving serious consideration to buying a NEL Tornado 12"X13" dd coil just to get a few more inches of depth in pastures.
My best finds in 8 months with the G2:
2 US boxplates
1 US Belt plate
1 intact colonial shoe buckle
1 silver washed officers sash buckle
513 CW bullets
2 seated dimes (1891 and 1856)
1843 Mexican 1/4 reale
Enfield rifle hammer
16 eagle buttons

Just my thoughts on one amazing detector...I don't see me ever selling my G2

Nice Review  Thanks

I'll agree with everything you've said "sekypaleo" just one thing though, have you ever experienced a target in AM that DIDN'T give any indication on the VDI screen (only audio) yet wasn't that deep? Gaz.

I agree too! All things considered I can't imagine not having a G2 or GB in my detector collection.

I have discovered that in disc mode the TID's stay right in a narrow range up to about 8"..say a 58 cal minie ball numbers will be grouped from about 75-80. If the minie is 4" or less pretty much solid 77-79. After 8", listen for the faint signals that will start grunting iron also...BUT, if it is grunting iron and mixing in numbers from 78-82 and you check the depth and it reads over 7"...better dig. I have never been as impressed with a detector as the G2...seriously, just 2 more inches of depth and I would never need any other detector.

Thanks for your input. I hunt Relics and Coins too. Now in Atlanta Georgia, you need to be able to work the iron out, and I hunt the coins and the relics about 50/50 but never have I ever had a detector the G2 is. I have learn this detector so well that I have tell the if the ring is right by a pull tab or bottle top. Great review, I working on one for the G2 as well.
