hi guys. Have used the ATX and done well with the standard DD coil - still waiting on those coil covers! Has anyone used the 8" mono on the beach - is this an advantage???? As this is my first PI I am unsure if this is a good coil for the beach v's the standard DD coil. Your thoughts appreciated.
I can not speak to the performance comparison, but having used the 8" and the DD on the Infinium:
Each has its features. I use the 8" in the winter among the rocks and hard to work areas in the ocean.
While in the summer I use the larger DD coil to cover more ground looking mainly for the the fresh drops.
I believe I do get better depth with the DD. I would assume the performance would be similar with the ATX.
The DD on the ATX does "see" deeper than the 8" mono on the Infinium. (I use both) I can not justify the
cost of the 8" mono for the ATX...Each detector has its own area it is better to be used in.
Mt typical answer would be that the 8" mono is more sensitive then the stock coil, however, the design of the stock coil is tweaked to also find tiny targets. I don't have the 8" mono coil and have no plans to get one at this time. I guess the ergonomic factor says the 8" mono won't wear you down as fast as the stock coil.
Just a thought, will the Recon Pro's mono coil work without issue? It shares same part number as the Recon Pro's 8 inch Mono Coil. I suspect it is the same exact coil. Be nice as I own a Recon Pro, be handy to just use its coil on the ATX, I do know for fact the Recon Pro will NOT support DD coils. Recon Pro WILL work GREAT with the INFINIUM MONO COILS. I know this personally as fact and work well they do.
Any one else know more about it? Appreciate the info.
If they share the same part number.....despite the advice from the manufacturer - I wonder if someone has both and can check the pin out resistance of both mono coils. This would be a safe way to see of they are electrically the same coil.
It may be a good way to get hold of parts and a mono coil by purchasing an older recon?
You got that right, price is a little bit steep for a shallow specialty coil. Hoping in a year or two the price will go down and then i will pick it up. For $529 i can buy another AT Pro !!! Coil pricing for the ATX right now is downright ridiculous. Too bad there are no 3rd party custom stem kits yet.
I am glad i got the deepseeker package, made getting the big mono a little less of a sting.
But i guess the ATX right now is pay to play, and i cannot complain about its performance it finds absolutely everything i am still impressed.
I will try that this summer, once our lakes thaw! But until then i am not sure.
I know the big mono picks up scrap iron at great depth, want to buy some nails?lol
If I remember right, the 8" and the big coil have the same garrett part # for both the atx and recon. If that is correct how can garrett state the coils will not interchange?
Garrett never stated that they did not interchange. An earlier poster was just wondering if there was any difference between them, and if they could be interchanged. My guess is that they are the exact same coils, i bet they also have the same pricetag new which is on the edge of too much.
