8" Mono or 14' Power DD coil for saltwater/surf use?

They both work good. I use the 8" mono, as I tend to hunt 7-8 hours at a time and it is the lighter of the two. I can easily pull clad dimes out at 15+ inches with y 8" mono. Getting the same if not more depth on gold rings is also a fact. The Infinium is tweaked to respond better to gold

The 14x10 mono is awesome also because it covers more ground than the 8 mono but it is waaay lighter than the stock 14x10 DD.
Used it for 4 hours the other day no probs.

Dude, that 10"x14" double"D" coil wares me out quick in the surf. It's a constant strugle. The 8" mono is sooooo much better for the surf. I got my 10"x14" mono on the way. I fell in love with that one on my MKll and can hardly wait to try it out on the LS. Happy Hunting!:)

I know what you mean!!! I like the 8" mono in the water but the 10x14"" DD wears me out on the wet sand. I did run the stock DD coil last weekend behind a hunter swinging an Excal 2 to see what was being missed.

I followed in the same area and the guy had a decent sweep going but I found plenty:biggrin: All these were very deep targets: 7 nickels, a heavy copper mans ring, small brass button, 5 dimes, 2 quarters with some zinkers, 3 lead fishing sinkers to boot! :detecting: The funny thing is he kept looking back at me digging all those targets:lol:

This was all found over a large area both on the wet and in shallow water and took a couple of hours to complete the hunt. I can't really say if he knew how to use the machine correctly or not:shrug:

I'm getting ready to order the 10x14" mono as I've heard good things about it besides the lighter weight.

Thanks!

The ML Excal is a VLF unit no way is it going beat a PI machine in Salt wet sand it want beat the Infinium on dry sand either.

In saltwater the DD will be more stable (I use the Infinium in the Atlantic not a fresh water swimming hole). Pin pointing with the DD can be a royal pain in the butt when you are up to your chest in the water. I also have the 8" coil but you have to swing this unit so slow it will take for ever to cover any ground.. if you can afford it get the 8" and try it for yourself ...Don't rely on opinions of others...

I sweep my coil at about 2 ft per sec (sometimes a little faster) which is listed on the Garrett manual. I don't mind going a little slower as I pick up the deeper old gold and smaller stuff too.

I do agree that the 14" will cover more ground and that's why I use it. However, I'm going to get the 14" mono because it will hit chains and is lighter in weight.

Also, some hunters that had issues running the DD coils say the mono runs and pinpoints better in some locations. I'll let everyone know how the large mono works in my area after I test it a little. :detecting:

Thanks!

Thanks for all the input guys !!! Now i have to see if any upgrades are available for the Infinium i purchased. It has the rough surfaced coil wires that i have been told by others that there has been some stability issues with . Going to check serial #`s with Garrett to see. Scotto
