Hi Guys

I am interested in the 8 inch mono and before I front up with $450USD - I know that the recon mono is the identical part number. Someone on here has both the ATX and the recon? - anyone used the 8 inch mono successfully. is it really 'electrically different?? or a sales line from Garrett?

Dale

Hi Dale,

I may be the only one having both the Recon and ATX, Both Pi's are like night and day.

The Recon 8" mono coil will not work with the ATX, May even damage the ATX if one tries to use the Recon 8" mono coil with the ATX. However, It's the opposite with the ATX the larger ATX DD coil will work on the Recon.

Like you, Have not sprung for the ATX 8" mono coil but will purchase one in the future. I believe it's a must have coil for my type of hunting, Especially in fresh water my current small coil setup (Infinium 5"X10" DD) really wasn't designed to be submerged so will be needing the 8" coil soon.

One or two others have tried the 8" coil and like it allot if memory serves me right.

Thanks Paul...that is wonderful advice I really appreciate that! I was told you had both machines. I am pretty keen to source a 8 inch for when in the water and around rocks etc. I imagine the mono still has the two tone response, just no iron check. Depth similar to the stock coil I wonder ?

Hello Dale,

Yes, The two tone still applies wit the 8" mono coil but the iron check does not work with the 8" mono. Agree for water or around rocks (tight places) the 8" should be an excellent coil, And reduce drag that can sure wear us out hunting for long periods in water with larger coils.

Haven't ben out with my ATX lately, been relic hunting instead but soon when more people hit the lakes/rivers will be out there with the ATX for sure
