8 inch Minelab coil likey?

I keep reading posts of all the other small coils used other than the 8 inch Minelab coil. Whats up with that? Seems to be a mighty fine trash hunter so does anyone have a good comparison for it against the other coils of smaller size? I know the SEF 8x10 would be a great coil but I want to run the Minelab 800 right next to it to see how they perform. I see the price of the SEF is 149 and the price of the 800 is 179 at the big K (if you know what I mean). Does it get a bad rapp just cause they have it as a promotional accessory at purchase time or does it perform?
Id be happy for any reply.

Thanks,

I have been looking for a good mid size coil myself and am curious to see what everyone else has to say. I figure there are three alternatives, the Sunray x8, the SEF 8x6, and the Minelab 8 inch. I used the SEF 10x12 coil on my explorer II and found it to be a heck of a coil and would buy a smaller SEF coil if I knew the exact size. I need a coil to hunt house sites. The SEF 10x12 and the Pro coil do a good job out on the easement and the open areas of yards, though they are too big when you get around the foundation of the house, as you begin to run into roofing nails and construction debris. I figure an 8 inch coil would be a good trade off between coverage and separation. Carrying two coils not an option for me as I generally park my vehicle and just start walking down the street and knocking on doors. Sometimes I end up 5 or 6 blocks away from my ride, so I gotta carry everything I use and believe me, you don

Thanks for the info. Remember too that the minelab 8 inch coil comes with a lower rod (40 some dollars alone) from that place you mentioned or anywhere else, so it is comparable in cost to the 8x6 if you throw in a lower rod. The stupid thing is I have sold two of them and never put them on my machine:wacko:. I own and use a 6 inch coil that I use in the corn stocks and can tell you that an 8 inch round coil wont fit between them in most cases. I
