8 inch coil for cz

patch

Member
I HAVE A CZ-5 WITH AN 8 INCH COIL.THE WAY I UNDERSTAND IT IS WHEN YOU ARE IN ALL METAL YOU ARE USING THE WHOLE COIL,BUT WHEN YOU ARE IN DISCRIMINATE YOU ARE ONLY USING THE CIRCLE IN THE MIDDLE. IS MY INFORMATION ACCURATE? THANKS GANG.

Certainly not as in discriminate you can get a signal right off the edge of the coil. In autotune(all metal) the manual states you may go deeper which is only natural as no discrimination and picks up all metals which is true in most detectors where limited discrimination is used to get more depth but of course have a noisy unit as it picks up all the signals...

I think when you read the CZ manual, it states autotune is a "wide scan" mode, so the "footprint' may be bigger and more sensitive, but I don't think the discrim mode reduces the scanning area to the smaller, inner part of the coil. I just think in all metal mode, you don't have to sweep as slow or overlap your sweeps as much.

I do feel that my Cz6a with the 5 inch coil is a killer combo.

mo that is not correct you are in allmetal mode that means you are not using any of your discrimination thats all and the auto mode isnt very deep either

Maybe I am missing something here but it sounds like your saying the auto-tone ( all metal mode ) isn't very deep. I disagree. I believe the auto-tone is deeper than the discriminate mode. It's just harder to find a place to run it because of all the signals. Also remember you have to run a slight threshold sound when in auto-tone for best results.

If you hunt in auto tune scans wider & deeper and covers more ground, but is faster too;
once you hear a signal just flip down one step to disc and it will i.d. it.:thumbup:

I found the same thing with my CZ6a. The auto tone does not go deeper than the discriminate mode set at 0, nor scans any wider. So, I use the Discriminate mode 100% of the time at 0 setting.
