Last year I bought the wife a GTA 350 and from the very start we had troubles with it pin pointing and the target I.D. was never close.
I emailed Garret several times only to be told I needed to practice with it.
Long story short instead of getting rid of it, I bought their new 7X10 elliptical coil. Man is that a hot little machine now. I

The GTA series takes the crossfire and the GTAX series like the newer 550 or 1250 for example take the crossfire II. My GTA 1000 had a bad coil and Garrett replaced it free. Mary at Garrett told me the older coils with the gray cable had more problems. All replacement coils now have the heavier black cable. My large 12.5" has the gray cable and she said if there was a problem that i could get it replaced too. Hope this helps.

If you really have a problem contact Mary at Garrett. But the 350 with the abscence of a pnpoint button is a little tricky to pinpoint with and does take practice and unless you centeer the target properly ID will be off.
The 7x10 is a great little coil and there is a sweet spot for pinpointing. Center the target side to side then drag the coil straight back until the instant the signal quits. The target will be right under the center tip of the inside oval 99% of the time.
