I already have a vaquero and I have the 5.75 compadre,, should I get another compadre with the bigger coil or get a silver Umax,,,, or C'mon give me some ideas before my wife finds something she likes in the big store and spends my money again.

also I'm getting single ear headphones,,,,,, its either the stingers by Killer Bee or the Rattlers by Detector Pro,,,,,,,,,, I mostly use Tesoro MD's so even though I asked that in another forum I'm very curious what Tesoro owners think..

finally,,,, who' currently best dealer for Tesoro's now, best service, highly recommended by the users here.

Another Compadre...even one with the bigger coil, would be a bit redundant I would think so I vote Silver.
It will fill in any gaps you have in the line, and most owners say the tone on this thing sounds extra sweet.
Even if you know the Tesoro language this is a slightly different model than what you already own that has its own particular peculiarities and learning new detectors is so much fun, (for me it is, anyway), and the Silver is just different enough.
Changing coils is a nice option, too.
I have a Vaq and a 7" coil Compadre and if I were going to buy another Tesoro unit it would be between the Silver and one of the top end units like a Tejon or something.

I use the regular 2 phone Killer B's on my Tesoros and absolutely love that combo.

i would not get the headphones now, through in another 80-100 bucks and get a vaquero. then you would be set for a good while. kellyco is a great dealer. they do not charge shipping or sales tax. i ordered a vaquero on a tuesday afternoon and received it here in maine, they are in florida, friday morning at 10:30am. the price they show on their website is all you will pay for it. i was pleased with them. no hidden charges, fees or tax. cannot beat that.

He already has a Vaq. Between the 2 I would get a silver. But to really round out your collection a Tiger shark would be awesome.

oh yeah. brain lapse there haha

I have tried the Vaq and the outlaw , the golden, and several compadres, I just picked up the silver and i really like it i would strongly advise to get the silver umax , the compadreis a great small gold finder, , better than the silver at that , and the small coil is even better at finding small things than the 8" so I would get the silver umax and never sell it , its an awesome machine that silver , the Vaq is good and deep , but a bit on the harsh side, if I went up from a silver it would be the tejan just so i could really get deep on things. but you really have to try the silver , i had tried one about 6 years ago and rejected it because it was not really deep , and i don't even think i learned the machine, but i figured it for junk because it had no ground balance, , and it would not hit a dime at 8 " deep but now after some time i realize the is is a great machine

The Vaq is overrated. No deviation in tone from what I experienced. Silver is a much better detector if ground is mild.

The audio tone on the Silver µMax is sweet and does carries a lot of info. The Silver µMax excels in and around sports fields that is loaded with can slaw. Its audio breaks up on most can slaw and foil, but gives a smooth audio response on coins and rings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt4V8G6KVeI The Vaquero and Modded Cibola have really work great for me when I need extra depth and when I'm looking for gold rings. I love using them both. I really didn't like the audio response of the Vaquero until I got a set of Killer B's Wasp Headphones. The Vaquero works best when the all metal threshold is set to a very slight hum before switching over to the discriminate mode. I have found that using a higher threshold setting makes everything sound about same and there is a loss of modulation in the audio response. I get a great big ole smile on my face when I hear a soft modulated woo audio response, because I know it's a deep coin, likely silver. Best of all, it doesn't have to have one of those super mega large heavy coils attached to it to get good really depth. I've nailed deep coins using the 5.75 inch concentric coil. Attach the 9 x 8 coil and the Vaquero will go as deep or deeper than most any detector out there with a similar size coil. To me the Vaquero is way underrated and is one of the deepest detectors that I own. It's really fun to use. If I didn't have the Outlaw I'd still have the Silver µMax. The Outlaw has a very similar audio response.

It takes a little time to learn the Vaquero's language. Mastering the Tesoro Tejon and Vaquero Metal Detector is good read. The Tejon is a little trickier to learn.

hey everyone thank you for the posts, yeah the vaquero is great I do love it and will always have it no doubt.. I have to try what tabman said above with the thresh setting but usually I just copy what 53 silver is doing in his vids and I do pretty good,,,the next machine though it may be the silver just for the simplicity and I'm very intrigued by this sweet tone I keep hearing about,, I'll just get a used compadre that comes along that has the 8" coil if it has a decent price..

Tab is right on about how to set the threshold it makes a big difference

Tabman, I'm sure the Vaquero is a fine detector for some folks and maybe with enough time one can notice some subtle changes in the tone, I just never could. I had a Cibola as well which I though was a much better detector. Maybe the Vaquero I had was a dud. The Silver though, especially at it's price point is the best Tesoro in my opinion.
