8" Coil Question

Which 8" coil would you choose for the Explorer, the Minelab or the Sun Ray? I am interested in the Sun Ray because it is slightly larger than the Minelab. How about the performance, which is deeper? Any comments on these coils would be appreciated.

Coiltek Joey coil. I used it for about 3 months then traded it for the X-8. I'm not sorry I traded I just miss certain aspects of it. A little better separation and the shape of the coil is perfect for getting between things like cornstalks in a farmfield(or beans etc.). The x-8 probably has just a little more depth so it depends on what you are looking for. Don't know anything about the minelab coil.

Jerry, I have the 8" minelab coil and it works very well. I was really surprised at the depth and seperationit has. The pin pointing is supeb. Much better than the 10". When I can use factory equipment I always do but that is just me. Sun ray makes fine coils also.

Hi Jerry, The Sun Ray sells #1 as far as extra coils go. They are a full 8 inch coil, and coil plugs are available to cover the open centers. This is very convenient if you like to hunt in wooded areas or over the stubble in bush-hogged pastures or grain fields. The X-8 works very well in trash and gives good depth, especially for an 8 inch coil. The Sun Ray coils have a pre-amp gain chip, same as the Minelab coils. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

My 8" Sunray air tests a quater about 8-9 inches, is that about right?
