8" Coil Question

Is there anyone who uses an 8" coil as their primary coil over the stock 10.5" ? I just bought one, is it better to use in general over the stock coil... will i lose much depth? how much better is seperation of targets?
thanks

I do! The explorer separates targets well with the 10" coil also. I like it because there fewer targets to try to identify per sweep of the coil. In trashy areas fewer targets underneath the coil is a big benefit in my humble opinion. It's also easier to swing. I don't know how much depth you might sacrifice though.

Gosh, Peter, you sure did bid awfully high to win that coil on eBay. By the time you buy the lower rod and hardware so that you can easily switch between the 8" and stock coils, you will have more into it than what a new 8" setup would cost from Kellyco. While you guys were bidding on that bare coil, someone else posted another new 8" Minelab on eBay, complete with lower rod and shipping paid, for a BUY NOW price of $75. I, of course, immediately pressed that BUY NOW button and mailed my money order to the seller just this very morning. But those that can wait a little while longer will probably do even better. You see, I figured that with all the Christmas free giveways of the 8" coil with lower rod by Minelab that they would soon start appearing on eBay because not everybody is interested in a smaller coil. And I haven't been disappointed. I have watched a number of eBay auctions for the 8" Minelab units so far. And I expect the price will keep dropping after the market gets saturated. Those who are willing to wait another month or two or three can probably start picking them up for around $50 on eBay. That is still not a bad deal for the people that got them for free but are not interested in keeping them. And it's a good deal for those of us who don't have to pay the going rate to Kellyco or someone else.

You lose a little depth but I find I actually find more targets. It is far better at seperation. The only real drawback is you have to be real careful or you'll walk over targets because of the smaller size.
