That is one awesome find. The cannon ball and the buckle are two items that continue to elude me for some reason. I know mine is out there somewhere. This probably sounds like a stupid question, but do you suppose after that gets good and dried out, could it still detonate? I know it's been in the ground a really long time, but since it still has at least part of a fuse on it and all....just wondering. Another story...my grandmother had a WWII shape charge sitting next to her fireplace for about 50 years that an uncle brought back thinking it was a bullet to an anti-aircraft gun. After I joined the Army and realizing what it was, I called my parents and let them know. The Army Explosive Ordnance guys weren't a bit impressed with having to move it for some reason. I really just wanted them to render it safe so I could keep it, but they had other plans for it. Just a note of caution, if you decide to have it checked out, be careful who you call. I lost a nice family relic. I suppose that was better than blowing up the house, but with a little bit of searching, I could have probably found someone to deactivate the thing and still have it.
