OK, Heres the deal, luckily for me and all of us, our brother in arms Jamesbondaka took some time to help me with discerning what this chain is, he called me and had me do some more testing and guided me through the process..:please:.

This is NOT 999!, its 19-20k though:thumbup:....I took it in to a jeweler today and had him test it with his electronic tester, he hit a dozen links and was getting 19-20k in no particular order, thats why my 18k acid would not touch it...then he offered me 1800 dollars.

Anyway, heres a few more shots...did a lot of research this week, I discovered interesting things about the Chinese culture and how they value and view this type of chain, (Chuk Kan)...I dont know how old it is, maybe somebody knows something off these hallmarks? I also am very humbled to have found it...I have no idea what made me get the coil over it when I did...that little blowout it was in is now under 3 feet of sand, as it was less than 24 hrs before I got there.... It hits a hard 61 in the air a foot from the coil in Pro Mode zero, 40 disc, and three bars shy of full sens! in the water and sand at the surfline it hops around as you can imagine. Looking at all those nines really made me pre-emptively wet myself, so I graciously beg y'alls indulgence as I proceed in this endeavor!:please: Anyway, I burned through a 36 pack of AA's this summer in the Pro.....

19-20K works for me! You didn't explain why they stamp it 99.9 though. Is that it's Feng Shui rating or something?
At today's depressed gold price ($1327), it's only worth a little over $2409.37 (that's the 18K value), hardly worth scooping it up! :ranting:

William, according to my research, theres a hefty penalty for counterfeiting "Chuk Kan" that was instituted not long ago...if its marked 999, its supposed to be that..seems people over there take coin stock or bullion and have it made into these chains which represent a store of wealth to that particular family...so thats got me wondering how old this might be, since it could have been made before the standards were imposed...thank goodness I found out before selling it to somebody...Its gotten cold up here in a gosh darn hurry, dropped 30 degrees in the last 24hrs...big wind out of the North, and I've got to get up and work the cuts tomorrow!...got any room at your crib for a poor old guy? I can carry a lot of weight, and might even help you out in case you get into another shootout someday, at the very least I promise to make it back to your place and feed the cat!

[size=large]Well Mudpuppy seems you found some real real treasure. gunna be harder to let go of something with history like that tied to it. Mucho congrats. Some family is not happy about that.

A great find and background history story. I had told you it was a once in a life time find, but since it's only 19-20, you still have a shot at a real once in a life time find. Don't let the chill stop you, go get it. HH jim tn

Sure, Tig says you can have his highness's royal bed (a twin) - during the fall and winter, he sleeps on his feeding unit/heat source (me) anyhow. Hey, maybe he's sleep on you and I'd get to roll over once in a while! :goodnight:

Very cool background info on your chain. Thanks for sharing. In my opinion, makes the find even more special

Mudpuppy! Great find, I am envious (fancier way of saying jealous). That would be a find of a lifetime for me, but since you found it, and got lots more lifetime left, you're gonna have to find a way to top it. Congrats. Artie

WOW...you have had a good year! I gave up and have not hunted since early August. Just got to burned out. I will be hitting it again soon with the rough waters of Fall coming.

Great update. Talked to my friend who's been a jeweler about 38 years. He's heard of those chains and said they can break off links when needed to use as cash.

OR........you can use it as a nice tow chain for the winter months!:geek:

From the photo it sure looks like 24K. Chinese have 24k, 22k, and I don't think they even mark anything lower than that. You better get another opinion. That's 24k.

I doubt most people understand how much the Chinese are into gold. It is like their savings account. I've got 24k and 22k Chinese gold. That is more than 22k. 22k is more pale looking. I know it's hard to believe they would wear 24k but they do. There is just truckloads of it in the jewelry stores over that there.

I don't know who your jeweler is, but I would not trust him ever again. $3,100 That guy knows full well. He's trying to screw you with your pants on. Like they say when someone does you a good deed you tell two people. When someone screws you, you tell twenty people. Reminds me of those pawn shop crooks.
