705 sensitivity issue.

My 705 gold pack seems to have a problem with the sensitivity. If I turn it up beyond say14-15 it starts to chirp and the id numbers jump around. For example 4-6-8-4-6-12-8... I thought maybe it was the batteries and I changed them. Didn't help. I did both resets and that didn't help. It does it no matter how its ground balanced or if it's on auto. All metal or in one of the presets.I used to be able to turn it up into the mid 20's. I figure I'm losing some depth with the sens set at 13. Does any of this sound familiar? Any help is greatly appreciated.
HH Tom.

If you tried it in different areas and it does this everywhere, there is a problem and I'd send it in to be checked. Did you try a different coil?

It does do it everywhere. Everywhere it didn't do it before ~sigh~. I only have the one coil so I can't test it. Looks like it needs to go to the Dr.

Have you removed the coil cover, and cleaned it and the coil?
It doesn't take much of the wrong stuff in there to make your machine go all wonkey.

Lots of sources for interference. I was at a sight that I have hunted several times this year, probably around 25 hours(?), and my 705 would not run. Well it ran fine for the first 30 min then started to false like mad. I have paid alot of attention to this same thing in the past. I have noticed several things. Certain commercial trucks caused falsing. then when they were down the road further no more problem. Pay attention though there may be a lot of construction traffic and they use radios a lot. I can not hunt with certain cloud covers that are obviously charged. Usually it is not a problem for me. I also noticed that when a certain business was opened I could not hunt across the street. Again another place I could hunt before about 5PM after that it was hit and miss. Wi-Fi??? I did find that if my Xterra would not run well then neither would my At Pro or Explorer.

Good luck
Jeff

Just an FYI, If you do wind up sending your 705 back to the techs. In Montana the UPS store wanted $75 and maybe 4 days delivery while USPS guaranteed 3 day am priority for $32 both having $800 insurance quoted. I hope it is just a interference issue for you and not a bad issue

Also, if you send it in, verify they only need the head unit and coil so you can ship it smaller and lighter.

WOW very good thought DirtAngler. I never even thought of asking that. OK now beating my head against the wall!

Clean out the coil cover ..... then do a Factory Reset X 2 (twice).

Recheck the plug to the coil is in nice and snug in the back of the detector and the locking sleave is nice and snug.

Let us know the results.

I has the same problem til I did the above.

Same here, I had a lot of falsies last Sunday and by doing the above today it was rock solid.

can you explain a little more on how to do a factory reset?

To reset the menu circut, hold the Menu button down when you turn it on. It will display FP.
To reset the Mode circut, hold the Mode button when you turn it on. It will display FP.

It's all on page 46 of the manual.

oh yeah, i read that, I didn't know if there was any other type of reset you can do that is off manual

I see no point in resetting the patterns. It's the only other thing that you can reset. And usually doing the Menu and Mode resets takes care of a mildly confused box.
It's actually something that you should do every month or so as a matter of course. Just to zero everything again.

Good hint! I had not done mine at all.

Well guys...I cleaned out the coil cover and reset the box both ways, twice. It still has the issue. I think it needs a trip to the clinic. This weekend I'm taking it out to a buddy's cabin. It'll be good to see if maybe its an interference issue. One thing I forgot to mention, it does this "falsing" on the ground,or three feet off the ground. It as if something is blowing by it in the wind. That's kinda leading me to think that its possibly some sort of radio or digital signal causing the problems. I don't know, I guess the techs at minelab will let me know. Since I'm in CA. Where will the detector be sent?
Thanks again guys. I really appreciate all of your help.
Tom

MY FISHER F5 WOULD DO THE SAMETHING UNTIL SOMEONE TOLD ME TO TAKE MY CELL PHONE AND PUT IT IN THE CAR OR TURN IT OFF WHEN DETECTING IT WORK.

Bummer about having to send it in. But FWIW, I've heard nothing but stellar comments about their turn-around since they moved from LV.

I had a bigfoot coil on my dfx that did something similar when it went bad. It would false terribly when bumped as well. My guess is the coil went bad.

If your keeping the machine either way, it may be just as effective to purchase a different new coil that will fit your hunting style to test it yourself. All you will be out is the initial cost of the coil of your choice, instead of having a service fee and shipping as well.
I could be wrong and you will still have to send it in, but then your new coil will not be a waste, but rather a nice option for future hunts.

Either way, Good Luck!

Actually quite a good idea Ron. To really appreciate what the Xterras can do, you need more than one frequency and/or configuration.

If all you want for now is a replacement stock MF coil, I have one I'd part with cheap. PM me if interested.
