Hi,
I'm brand new to detecting and I have the xterra 70. I was wondering after doing a search what pattern do Canadian hunters run in with the xterra to hit on Candian coins? if this has been answered before I cant find it and apologize in advance

Gary

Welcome to the X-TERRA forum. I thought there had been some discussion on Canadian coins in the past. But I can't come up with that post either. My best advice would be to scan all of the denomination and types of coins you hope to find and make notes of the TID information with the coil(s) you'll be using. Different coils can give a slightly different reading, as do coins on edge and coins with adjacent targets. But as a general rule, if you have your X-TERRA properly adjusted for the site, when you lay a coin on top of the ground and sweep back and forth over it (with no other targets under the coil at the same time), the TID you get will be the same reading as those buried underground. Again, welcome to the forum. JMHO HH Randy

I have found a lot of Canadian coins with my X-70 and I use the pattern with the lowest discrimination. I usually hunt in the prospect mode or all metal, then switch to coin mode to dig it when a target is found. Their coins will give different TIDs due to the iron in their coins. The silver coins will always give good #'s. You will have to dig a lot of junk when hunting Canadian coins. I use a rear earth magnet on my digger to get the coins faster.

Where I mostly MD the only coins are old so they are silver or copper, mostly copper, so I turn off pattern 1 ferrous. I sometimes et fooled by the odd iron pot but usually they are deep and if I have no non-ferrous recovery and a target still shows in the hole at 5-6" but indicates shallow I know I have a deep cast iron pot or stove fragment.

If you hunt modern parks for "post silver" coins you will cannot reject iron or you will miss a lot of modern "silver."
