7 inches+ Quick Fix

I made a quick fix to lengthen the handle on my army shovel. A pool cue, made to fit the socket of the shovel. It's bolted on and I used black tape only to dress it up.

It adds a little over 7 inches to the handle making it much easier for this old guy to dig standing up. Now watch out! Me and my new X70 will be all over the hidden treasures.

I have the same trench tool and was wondering how hard it was to remove the original handle?

I see there is a screw on the bottom, just unscrew that and give it a few whacks?

Thanks,

I too find it a little short and would like to replace it with a longer handle so I can more easily jump on it in hard ground.

The original handle was riveted. I had to drill it out and the handle was easily removed. Actually the most time consuming part of the think was fitting the new cue stick handle. You want it to be a pretty snug fit.

I used it yesterday in an area around a Climax Moly Mine here in Colorado. Very rocky dirt and the shovel worked great. Good luck!

Is that an early Oreo cookie in that picture?

I wish. No, it's very rare Pautzke Salmon Egg jar cap. Well, maybe not rare. Also a nice old Ballantine Ale bottle cap and a lead bullet fragment. I was using my 6" 18.75 coil and the lead bullet really had me jumping. This was my first outing with that coil and I really like it. I did have some signal overload up there. Maybe from the Moly in the soil. I'm also on a gluten-free diet so no more oreos. Believe me, if you ever ate a flour free cookie you would crave an oreo too.

Thanks again.

I had a look at the tool and mine appears to have 2 rivets through the handle. I did not notice them before. I suppose you just used a couple of nails as replacements?

Yes there were two rivets. I found a couple of bolts that fit (1/4"-20 ?) put them through and nuts on the other side. The black electrical tape covers the sharp parts. Nails would be too small. I did a similar thing with a garden tool and a length of dowel rod.
