7 inch coil? Concentric or Wide scan?

Anyone using the 7 inch coil on their Umax machine? I never hear much about the 7inch, but it would seem it might be a good compromise between the stock 8x9 and the 5.75 by having decent separation, but still giving some decent coverage and depth. Maybe a little lighter than the stock coil also. Anyone with any thoughts or experience with the 7???

7" concentric is my favorite park, tot lot etc. coil. A bit more coverage than the 5.75 and very little depth loss compared to the 8" or 9X8". Every thing you say is accurate.

I've actually considered picking up a 7 inch concentric to put on the Compadre I have. It has a 9 x 8 wired in right now, and for many hunting conditions that is just fine, but it's a little too big to separate targets when it gets a little more trashy. A 5.75 really helps in trash, but 7 inch concentric just seems like it'll hit a home run on the overall compromises.
Cheers,
tvr

P.S. Monte .. you out there?

The earlier Compadres came with the 7" concentric. I had one and wish I hadn't sold it even though I have several other umax models to choose from. Monte is a fan of the 7" concentric if you read through his posts.

My subject-line re[ply really answers your questions, but I'll add more just in case it was confusing.

And you answered yourself with your questions/comment, except for the type of 7" coil.

Yes, the 7" coil is an excellent compromise between a little 4" or 5

Excellent Info! Looks like I will be adding the 7 concentric to the arsenal! Curious why you don't hear as much about the 7? I'm gonna give it a shot!!!

I'd guess that it is a number of things. The 7" is not super light, compared to something like the thin-profile 5

If you get a 7" concentric, spend ample time afield and then be sure to give us YOUR impressions of the performance.

I sure will. I'm going to give it a shot!

By the way, how is the weight of the 7 as compared to the 5.75 and stock coil? Right in the middle there somewhere?

Monte has more years and experience than me, but my use of the 7" concentric enforces his good comments about it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I guess that's why they make a variety of sizes.I like the 7" but I prefer the 5.75 concentric and use it 90% of the time. On the Mayan ( I used it for nugget hunting in the early 80s) and the Inca there were not as many coil options.

Interesting news. Tried to pick up a 7inch concentric from Richard at Backwoods, he just advised me that they have been discontinued!!! That sucks!

I wonder what a new one would be worth? :)
