6X8 SEF vs 5"-6" DD

For those of you who have tried both, do you think the 6X8 SEF is truly small enough, compared to the 11" pro Coil to justify it's use as a "Trashy Site" coil? I am interested in adding a small coil for areas with a million targets and for fishing around in tight spots. I am not convinced that the 6X8 SEF is enough smaller to justify it's existance. I would appreciate your input. I come from the X-Terra 70 and don't want to get caught up in having a coil for every slight change in terrain or conditions, that is a part of my reasoning in buying the E-Trac (though certainly not the only reason!)
Thanks,
Idaho PRB

The 8x6 sef is better than the pro coil in heavy trash for me but the Sunray x5 is even better for the worst of the worst trash.I have both and would not consider getting rid of either. The 8x6 covers more ground per swing and is heavier than the x5.
Either one should be very beneficial for you in very trashy sites. After all that I still must say the pro coil is the greatest coil made for its size for both depth and separation .
Some have stated how the 12x10 sef is quieter/more stable at high sensitivity and I agree. However in my many tests it was no deeper and not as deep on smaller items compared to the pro coil .

Aw Shucks! I was afraid you might say that  " Hey Honey, I need two more coils and lower rods, Oh... and a Sunray X-1 Probe...and another upper rod...and I would really like a good pair of headphones....and then I'll be done. Promise"

I agree with Ray 100%. I really like the EXcelerator 6" as well. Little bigger than the X-5, and runs smooth. All are good coils.

Give the sun Ray X-5 a shot... You can find it by Google Sun Ray X-5... Good Luck!

I also agree 100% with Ray.It took me about an extra 100 hours in the field and 300 bucks for SEF to come to the conclusion that the pro coil would punch down a little deeper not much mind you and is less stable than my SEF but pro coil is very good coil save your money on like size coil..Love the 6X8.

I love the Sunray 5.5" coil. It gives extreme depth for it's size and great separation. I go into really trashy picnic areas and hunt for jewelry. I found 44 rings with it this year, 4 diamond, 7 gold & 15 siver.
I just recently bought the 6" and 12x15" sef coils and can't wait to see how they work. Good luck!

In my opinion you definitely need small coil in your arsenal. Either the Sun Ray 5"coil or the EXcelerator 6" coil would be my choice. I have both but seem to do better with the 6" excelerator coil. My three main coils for dirt are the pro coil, sun ray 8" coil and my 6" excelerator coil. You can't for wrong with either of the two smaller coils. HH

that is a question i would like to ask which coil is best for gold look forward to any comments i am a newbie so trying to learn thanks happy hunting

If you are still interested... My 6" should be in tomorrow. Will post results after getting some good hunts in.

I to love the 5' coil in trashy sites the 6x8 covers more ground and gos a little deeper then the 5' but here in IL. the 12x10 is much deeper then the pro coil and handles the iron better. I still use the pro coil in some sites but not around iron just my 2 cents worth...phil.
