6x8 sef coil on VX3

I have the 6x8 coil i use on my MXT and love how it hunts. Can this same coil be used on the VX3 if i just use the lower KHz. ? I have the 5.3 coil also but not V rated can it be used also? Thanks Flintstone

Yes they can be used on the VX3. It just depends on the individual coil. Some can be run with higher gain and some can't. Some can be run at full gain and 3 frequency, there is just no guarantee. They for sure should work with the two lower frequencies. Just try them they can't hurt the detector.

All that will happen is if the signal % reading is too high you will get overloads.

Thanks Rob, I just got the VX3 at a good price, $580.00 looks new. Guy upgraded to V3i. It came with the 9.5 coil and i have the D2 that works good on it. Just need to use it. Thanks Flintstone

You got a fantastic deal on the VX3 and I bet you will really like it. I did not use the 8X6 much but when hunting in trash, I really liked the coil on the V3i.

Not much, but here was my comments on the 8X6 a few years ago. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?66,1340713,1340713#msg-1340713

Hi Rob, Can any MXT coil not V rated work on the VX3?

I'm not Rob but maybe this will help...................................

I have a V3i and an MXT, all my MXT coils except the 8x14 ( I actually haven't tried the 8x14 ) work well on my V3i, they also all pass the 15 gain test.
The coils are the 950 concentric, 6x8 eclipse, and 4x6 eclipse shooter.

So put your MXT coils on and test them.... even if you can't run full gain they will still work.

A side note about the 8x14........ I found that it was never V rated and that the 10DD was designed to match or beat its performance anyway..... Also it is kinda heavy after you been swinging it for a while.

There is no guarantee with any non V rated coil. Some will work and some will be too far out of null. You just have to try each individual coil.
