6x8 SEF coil,first thoughts, 2.5 hour tryout

Hi All:
As stated in a previous post I received a 8x6 SEF yesterday, today I took it out for a spin on a local park. Now this park is heavily hunted and it also is thick with trash from years of use but if you work it a few silvers do pop up and Wheaties from time to time. Since it is close to home and I have a purchaser coming out to pick up a Safari I thought I could get some time in with it to start evaluation.
First thing is it is not much lighter that the stock pro coil, thicker in structure and swings OK.
Secondly, it seems to change the ferrous/conductive reading just a tad bit but not enough to make a difference,ie. dimes on the stock read 12/45 (clad) on this coil 11/44,much as in the range of wheat pennies. Since I did not test on silver I do not currently have a reading for it. Quarters read 11/45-6 on the SEF where as on the stock coil it reads 11/47
solid. The soil is neutral in this park,sand/loam so not much is needed in the way of difficult settings. I found 2.25 in clad and 22 pennies,no wheats no silver and did not really expect it there but good tryout. Tomorrow I go to the tough areas around an old fairgrounds with mineralized soils and will update this post with finds if significant or not.
Depth of digs were no more or less at this time and this is just the first run I feel a weeks worth of switching and trials will give me a true indication if I would recommend this to my clients or not. Take care all Exanimo:minelab::detecting:Hardrock

This will be interesting as some have already talked of the merits of the 6x8, especially in the seperation department, curious about increasing sensitivity with it and depth, although you did say you were going to use it in an area with bad ground, keep us posted. I believe Ray-Mo has a 6x8 also, see if I can find any post on that coil from him. You never know different coils, different ground etc.., whats good in one place may not work in another.
What I would like to see is your pattern screen and settings for your iron mask, Im sure you are using ferrous tones also.
Thanks,
John

Hi all : I do not have the Sun Ray to try it out against but friends do and I may borrow it or order one in eventually. The Ferrous tone is what I used today and 7/9 on the iron mask , lots of bent nails in that park. As far as some of the posts I am being very open minded and will probably try both IM and a old coins setting I have set up and toggle between the two to check things out, we talked about doing a grid and hunting it tomorrow with the stock coil vs. the 6x8 we will see what the days brings. :detecting:Hardrock
