6T vs M6

Can anyone tell me how much depth I would lose going with a Prism 6T instead of the M6? I have rheumatoid arthritis and the Prism is lighter for me to swing and I already have a target probe and a shooter coil. I mainly hunt parks and playgrounds for clad coins and an occasional wheat penny or silver.

You might not lose any or very little depth depending on your ground and your hunting skills. The question is what coil and probe do you have? If you have the SunRay probe, it and the coil are not interchangeable with the M6 and 6T.

Thanks Larry,
I have a Prizm V with the 950 coil that I really like that has the Sun Ray probe on it. I also have the 4X6 shooter coil and an extra rod. I really have problems swinging heavier detectors and the Prizm is really light. I was thinking of upgrading my machine to something that has VDI numbers and I had heard a lot of good things about the M6 for coin hunting which is what I do most. I have decided to go with the 6T since I already have the accessories and the Prizm V and I would have it as a backup if needed. I was just concerned that I was giving up a lot of depth by going with the 6T but have decided that the extra pound of weight just would not be worth it. Thanks for your response. Nice to know I might not be losing much depth by not going with the M6.

I would not be too concerned with the "depth factor" or even the VDI, most targets are well within the range of the 6T and deeper targets do not always VDI correctly. Use the detector you are comfortable with and just enjoy the hobby.

Last spring I added a 6T to my arsenal primarily due to the weight difference compared to my MXT. I've found the depth to be quite good and the ground tracking works well. The tones are too many IMHO, but one can use them or not. I'm pretty sure you'll find the 6T a noticable step up over your P5 and as the coils, probe etc. will interchange,it should be a good way to go.

I am very interested in this discussion, because I find myself in a similar situation. I would also prefer to get the 6T over the M6, mainly for the difference in weight. I would be using the 6T on the wet ocean sand quite often, and have a few extra questions.

How do they compare on the wet salt sand.

Does the frequency difference affect performance on the beach.

How does the ground balance and auto tracking features compare.

Apart from reading many articles on this topic, it would be great to hear from any users that have tried both machines especially on the beach.

I wish I could help you with the beach info but since I am a land hunter and have no beach around here I can't. I will say that I have no regrets about buying the 6T over the M6 due to the weight. The performance of the 6T has really impressed me. I have had all different kind of detectors and the 6T is my favorite so far. I'm not saying that if my arthritis would allow me to swingit, that I would not be swinging an Etrac or V3i, but as far as mid priced lightweight detectors go I think it's great. I mostly hunt parks, schools, and private residences and it suits my type of hunting to a tee. The 4x6 DD Shooter coil is a must have for totlots and it makes the 6t a totlot beast. As you can tell, I am very happy with my decision and saved myself a pound of swing weight which is very important to me.
