Does the meter on the 6000 XL lock on a target or go back to 0
 
lock-on and hold until any response causes it to change. If the Signal Balance is set too high then any sort of electrical/electronic disturbance can do it, but if it is set for stable operation it will hold the ID for more time than you need to figure out what it's telling you.
