I'm new not sure if this is the right forum.... have a whites 6000/di pl sl (black box) that will not beep on air test or ground test??? seems to work ok but I am worried about ground balance and depth?? please help
 
Has it worked correctly in the past? How long have you had it? Are you fine tuning it in accordance with the owner's manual?
I assume that you are hearing targets, which means that your coil is probably good, and the volume is turned up. If all your knobs are at preset, except the MODE switch (should be at GEB/Norm), then you should get a beep.
Mine used to beep so fast that I could miss it if not paying attention.
After performing the balancing steps, is there a significant change in the threshold hum? If so, see if you can adjust it out using sig bal. If you are able to get a good ground balance but never hear the beep, I'd probably not worry about it too much.
