6 x 10 Eclipse on M6?

Gopher

New member
I'm wondering what I would gain by using an Eclipse DD 6x10 compared to the stock coil on the M6. I like the hole in the middle of the stock coil and $150.00 is quite a bit if there's not a considerable difference. I hunt mostly for coins. Does the Eclipse identify targets as well? Could someone give me the scoop on the two.
Thanks

Hey Gopher,

The 6 X 10 is a little better in trash. ID is great. But, if I were not hunting in highly mineralized soil. I would stick with the stock coil. If I were gonna get an extra coil and I only coin hunted. I would get one of these three. Either the 4.5 X 7 Excelerator, the 4 X 6 White's DD or the 5.3 Eclipse. For relic hunting I like the 1400 DD but, not for coins. Hope this helps!!

I have not found the ID to be any better from one coil to the next. However, when you go with different than stock coil. The depth readings will be off some. Usually a smaller coil will read the coin deeper than it actually is. And, a larger than stock coil will read the coin shallower than it actually is. At least that has been my experience.

Thanks Mike
I think I'm going to buy an M6 before the end of the month, which is close at hand. Just thinking about how to use that coupon. I've tried an M6 a little and the only thing that I didn't like about it was where they put the sensitivity knob and the ground track switch. You have to reach over your right hand and down into a somewhat blind spot to turn it on and adjust the sensitivity. I'm right handed, along with most of mankind and if Whites would put those on the same side as the disc. knob ( more like in think the MXT is), it would be perfect to me.
