6 Silver Day! A Great Time Hunting With My Buddies at the "Silver Park"!

Hello My Friends!

Yesterday, I got to meet up with some of my buddies at the famous "silver park". It was a great day! Temps were in the mid 70's, with a nice breeze. I got to the park first, and shortly after, Danny(SoCalDigging), Leo(fooleo), and Jeff arrived. We were detecting an area that has given up plenty of old coins, but has been getting more and more difficult to locate good signals. The ground was rock hard, but I was eager to see if I could locate any good signals left in this trashy, deep clad, underground pipe part of this park. Jeff immediately began filming for another episode of "Finder's Keepers", when I told him to come over and start filming a deep signal I had found. It was a classic Explorer, deep and faint, fluty silver signal. As I pried my way through the hard layers of dry dirt, at around 8", my probe gave a nice, solid silver tone. Sure enough, out popped my first silver, a '44 Merc. After digging a few more wheats, I found another Merc and Rosie, along with the thin, silver ring. Near the end of the day, and as we were getting ready to do our "wrap-up, show and tell", I scored a couple more silvers as I was walking toward my car; a '47 Rosie and '64 Quarter within 10 inches of each other to round out my 6 silver day. Since I always wear gloves, I didn't know what I had done to my left hand until I took them off. It looks a lot worse than how it feels. I must have broken some blood vessels, and I'm going to have to change my digging technique with my Lesche so that it doesn't happen again. Damn dry ground!! :rage: I felt like I've recovered about 3/4 of my strength back, and it was good enough to be able to keep up with all my buddies yesterday. :yo: I really enjoyed meeting up, detecting, and comparing deep warble signals with my buddies again! I will definitely be returning back to the "silver park"! It has treated me very well in the past for the oldies, and on my return trip in over a year, there was still silver waiting for me!

Thanks for looking!

It really looks a lot worse than how it feels. The broken blood vessels must have caused the discoloration and swelling.

I got into a fight with my Lesche, and the lesche won.

Nice hunt Dan, 6 silver in one hunt is awesome  now go take care of that hand.

OUCH !! I know how that feels. It's been so dry around here that you hope for enough rain to soften things up. Most parks around here aren't too
bad - the top 4-5 inches are usually black earth. The fields can be killers though !

Good hunting and some nice finds. From the looks of your hand, it appears you need to bring a jackhammer to that park. HH

Thanks for sharing. They are really nice finds. I am glad to hear you are regaining your strength. HH!:minelab:

Well, there's always the right hand! Pretty wicked, still.

WTG Dan and congratulations on a six silver day!! :clapping:
It's fun to hunt with good friends and compair the
signals and finds at the end of the day. 3/4 of your
strength back is one heck of a lot better than a year
ago this time!! Take care of your hand my friend.

My buddy, Leo Aranza (host of the show), has been uploading a number of previously taped episodes on his YouTube channel. Not sure when this episode (probably a two part series) will be complete.

My settings are pretty much straight forward. I rarely change them, except for noise canceling and the occasional increase/decrease in manual sensitivity. Some of those coins I found in my pics were in areas I, along with my buddies, have gone over countless times before. You need to be patient, but persistent, concentrating on changes of tone while moving your coil very slowly, especially in trash. I let the level of trash in the ground dictate the rate at which I swing my coil. I also listen closely for "blended" signals, where I hear a combination of a deeper high tone signal mixed in with shallower low tone signals. Technique is key, and the more hours you're able to hunt, the better your technique and the higher your quantity of those elusive deepies!!

Gain: 8
Sensitivity: Manual 22-25 usually with Pro Coil; a bit higher with 6x8 coil.
Discrimination: just a small bit of iron mask at around 27-28
Sounds: Conduct
Variability/Limits/Volume: all maxed to 10
Threshold tone: 5
Threshold volume: barely audible
FAST/DEEP: both OFF
Audio: Normal

Ouch! Yes, take care of your hand. With the ground being rock hard and stubborn as a mule, you may want to consider digging plugs with a Predator Little Eagle. It is only 15 inches longer than a Lesche digger and you can use your foot to drive the digging blade into the ground. It will prevent wear and tear on your hands. I realize there is general reluctance among us to use anything bigger than a Lesche digger. But the Little Eagle is option to consider. Congrats on a six silver day! Man, that is awesome.:bouncy:

Congrats on the 6 silver day my friend.

It doesn't get much better than that these days...especially at a pounded park like that.:clapping:

PS: I've been mowing non stop at Dad's the last 2 days...and my neck and shoulders look like that red spot on your hand:stretcher:

I just got home about 10 minutes ago...am going to take a quick shower...and plop my tomato lookin' self in bed.

I'm glad you said your hand isn't as painful as it looks:thumbup:,,,cause it sure looks painful.
