6 months detecting, 0 experience

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum, but love it already. As the topic states, I began detecting in June of 2012 with an Ace 250, and a fiskars spade...no shovel, no pinpointer. Just acquired an Etrac from Richard at Backwoods, bought a pinpointer, Lesche, and a Predator Raven shovel. Yahooooo! I say 0 experience because the Etrac will be a learning curve to say the least, but I can't wait. Look forward to posting finds and seeing everyone else's in the spring. Here in Canada, winter sucks!!!!!
Cheers
Chris

Welcome ! You will love the e-trac ! You just have to put the time in on it. Learning curve not what some say it is. Time on the machine is key to learn what it is telling you. Lots of great people on here to help you out. I am also waiting for the snow in PA to be gone, but I know that there won't be any serious hunting until March. Good luck !

Warm Welcome to the E-Trac family! The best part of having a new metal detector is discovering all of it's abilities
and digging those iffy signals that you're curious about and finding some cool stuff too. I've had my E-Trac for 2 months and
I can only tell you that it's an AWESOME detector. You'll be finding targets way deeper than you have been in the past.
Happy Hunting !!

I hunt mostly in the woods and homesteads. I occasionally hunt one fresh water beach. Very little clay.

interesting. I started with multiconductive tones for 6months and I was wasting too much time on them.I suggest you start off in two tone ferrous with an open screen and just dig the high beeps. Put the gain on to quite high, recovery low

Thank you very much! A friend of mine has a CTX and he hunts in 4 tone ferrous combined. Does the Etrac have that capability? I don't even have the machine in my hands yet, but will in a week or so.

Well my buddy started last yr fresh out of the gate with an etrac, zero experience. I spent 2-3 days with him showing him the ropes and in his first season he dug 117 silver coins, so you have a good shot at doing very well your first year!

117silvers...Giddy up!! I've watched all of your videos! Very informative and well done. Thank you

I started with the Ace 250 about 4 years ago. This fall I switched to the E trac and went back over all the spots I had hunted before. Everyone of them produced silver. Its a great machine. I would say it took me about 20 hours of use to really get a good handle on what it was telling me. Good luck you will love it. Great help on here if you need it.

Thanks dk dogs! I find that the Ace 250 is a penny magnet. I have one spot that I go to here in Canada that is full of Wheaties. I pulled over 40 out in a 6'x40' strip, all pre 1950. Some were early '20's and a 1909(no S or VDB). Surprisingly not one silver! I'm sure they will magically appear with the Etrac!

Good luck from another Canadian Etrac er.:twodetecting:

Sounds like you are WELL equiped...Now read that manual 3 times and get out there and dig us some goodies...I bet it is about -10 up in Canada today...it is only 13 here in NY as I type this...

HH,

DiggerODirt: do you really wanna know how cold it is here? Lol. In Celsius, it's -29 with the wind chill! That's -20.2F! Looks like it will be a bit before I even get an Etrac. I was supposed to pay for it and have it in a week, but life happened, and the money had to go somewhere else. I'll still be good to go by spring. We'll be frozen here for quite a while yet!

It's been a balmy 20* F lately. Was in the single digits for much of the last few weeks.

That means that winter is right around the corner. About time to get out the warm coat.

Nice pick with the e-trac, I really enjoy mine.
