6" MF Concentric vs 6" HF DD

I've had very decent results with both the 6" HF and 10x5" HF DD coils for coinshooting.

Just wondering if the 6" MF Concentric would give slightly deeper results.
Because if I up my sensitivity above 15 it tends to illuminate all the small foil and aluminium in those very trashy spots with the HF coils.

They are designed this way, I wouldn't want them any other way.
Just thinking about an additional tool.

Had a Coiltek Digger when they first came out. But it just didn't want to hunt in my urban trashy spots, the detector was unintelligible.
So it got ditched.

Most of our European coins are in the Pull-tab range,... so maybe I should embrace digging lots and lots of disposable rings.

Thx for reading!

I still rate the 6" concentric the best coin shooter amongst the 6" range and 10"x5" Scoop.
More than slightly deeper responses.

Fuller tonal clarity when judging pull tabs and bottlecaps/twist tops up against coinage.

Can be run with a higher sensitivity than the other 6" coils and with less EMI induced falsing, especially against the 6" digger coil, of which I couldn't for the life of me find a practical use for.

Always use a concentric coil if possible.
Depends on terrain.
There are some super highly mineralized terrains where the use of a concentric coil is just not possible.
For example, if you look at "real" gold prospecting machines,
They all come stock with a DD coil.
But if you do not have real challenging terrain, stick to a concentric coil.
Happy hunting, Kev

I had both on my xterra 50 and 505. I preferred the 6" HF DD coil. It ran circles around the concentric here where I live. I found more silver dimes and V nickles with that combo than I have with just about any other set I have used. I am not sure what your soil is like but in mild ground it does very well on coin sized objects at average depths. It is not a deep go getter with this set up anyways and since your using the 10X5 DD already your not going to notice a big difference in depth. If you want more depth get the large HF minelab coil for the Xterra. The only draw back is it makes your detector "front heavy" and you can tell a big difference. Good luck

I allready own the 10.5 DD HF, love the coil.
Indeed it makes the machine front heavy, but I've added an attachment point just in front om my control box where I run the bungee off.
And added a little weight under the armcup to compensate the balance.

Can't say it is actually a lot deeper on the small stuff, it takes in more ground signal. But it has dug me more than a few deeper coins and such.

The coil design makes it want to skip over bumps and such, other center mounted coils tend to dig in during the swing. Thats a big bonus on a beach in the dry sand.

Hey scoop something you might want to test with that hi freq 6" coil is the response difference between max/near max sens and the 15 sens setting you mentioned on gold chains and earrings/charms. True, it does illuminate the foil more but it also heightens the response to smaller gold and I believe coins on edge. I mention this because you mentioned also beach hunting, something I mostly do.

It is very sensitive to small stuff, very sensitive indeed.

I once had the funny idea of detecting the upper high tide mark with that coil in prospecting mode. Running medium sens settings, too much EMI to really open her up.
It easily gets the smallest of jewelry and every small piece of foil imaginable to man. Pinpointers can't pick this stuff up.

So every scoop with signal in it got taken down to half a handfull of sand and dumped in my detecting bag.
At home I simply panned the sand.

A weird way of hunting, but it delivers the smallest jewelry and you don't spend hours on the beach not being productive.

I use a small sifter I got from walmart. I scoop with my detector, and if it goes through my regular scoop holes I use this little sifter and it works great. You cant dig with it but it will do a small batch of dug sand quickly. Its amazing the small pieces of punched aluminum and small bits of lead there are on the beach, until you get a detector that starts finding them:clapping:
Its a wire screen sifter that will catch an earring back.
