6" dd coil

I just got the 6"dd coil for my Equinox 600. I bought this coil specifically to hunt an old iron infested house site. I have pounded this place with the 600 with the stock coil and with my T2+ with the stock coil also. I just knew I was going to be able to pick out some goodies with this small coil but so far I'm not real impressed with it. I'm hunting in field 2, and park 2, sensitivity at 20, FE at 3, 5 tones and recovery speed at 3. This coil is giving me good tones and numbers on nails with the iron discrimination on. The 11" coil will totally knock out small nails and I figured the small coil would do even better. This is not what I was expecting from the small coil. Do I have my setting wrong?

Your 6 inch coil is falsing on nails the reason is there is not another target under the coil . The stock coil does not false as much because there is another target under the coil . You can't get a false if you have a target under the coil at the same time the false is happening .
More falsing happening because more nails pointing at the coil without a target under the coil .
These falses you are experiencing are throw en false meaning nothing is under the coil there coming off of nails pointing at the coil 2 to 4 inches away .
One must pinpoint the false which you will find is never under the coil a false under the coil is always going to pinpoint under the coil and give a da da where a throw en false will give you a coin like sound but will not be under the coil .
The 6 being more sensitive than the stock will pick up the weaker throw en false much easier than the stock .
One other thing does not matter how much sensitivity or how little you use will not get rid of a throw en false . sube

I am literally going out today , I agree with sube . Keep in mind the stock coil has a big footprint and can capture a lot of targets underneath it all at once . I have been using the 6" for a little over a year in iron infested areas and have done really well. I run it in all metal most of the time and when I hit a target I toggle back and forth with the discrimination. I have found old coppers and other relics at good depths as well. I am Massachusetts usually use forest 2, or field 2 recovery 5 . Noise cancel quite often. Also as sube has said work your sensitivity . Im usually 18-23. it all depends on ground conditions and also if you are alone or with a buddy. maxed out usually creates a lot of chatter. Im also using the 800 , not that it makes a difference. Patience is a virtue . Happy hunting !!

Try increasing you recover speed. I normally use sensitivity at 22 and reactivity of 6 in really trashy areas . It's an excellent coil an yes it can be a little noisy but I have fantastic results with it. Good luck.

On my 800, I have had very good results with that small coil.
A few years ago after trying in a small trash infested yard on 4 previous trips there using the stock coil and found 14 additional coins there with the small coil.
Got great depth too!
I run my iron bias at “0”.
I also run Park 1.
Slower sweep speed helps too I have found.

(Throw-en False ) = (Coin Signal )
Running faster recovery will (not) get rid of a coin signal (Throw en False ) you may hear less targets falses and coins because your getting less depth here . The 6 will have 6 coil prints on the ground in 3 feet where as the stock coil will have 3 there is no reason to run the 6 any faster than 0 or 1 for recovery . Now you can get some advantage of running the stock at a faster speed .

Iron bias setting iron bias at 9 or 0 does not get rid of a throw en false just as a coin there the same .
Sensitivity set as high as you can go I max with the 6 inch coil if you run less sensitivity you get less depth you can't get rid of a coin signal by reducing sensitivity only make it harder to hear .
You will get more ground noise running high sensitivity but falsing will be the same falsing repeats ground noise does not .

Pinpoint mode gets rid of all throw en falses it will not detect a throw en false . This is why when you pinpoint it's not under the coil but pinpoint drags you to the side of the hole where the true target is the nail falsing off the point of the nail .

My settings 6 inch coil
Park 1
FE 2 0
recovery 0 to 1
sensitivity max
Remember running the 6 will find 3 times the signals that the stock will in the same place just more sensitive and better separation where as the stock may have 2 or 3 signals under the coil but your only hearing 1 at a time of the 2 or 3 that are under it .
As you can see I run the 6 wide open (Because I can ) the stock coil can't be that's why you need all those adjustments .
There two different animals and should be run different .
The best thing about these hyper sensitive detectors is there ability to look under what's in front of you before scanning with the coil edge scanning super for coins on edge . sube

I believe running all metal would eliminate iron falsing and masking.
Yup. You'll hear the iron. But you'll also hear those sweet almost masked squeaks popping out if the iron noise.
