Got permission to work an old homestead whose only building standing is the old barn. Lots of trash, iron, cans, bolts, harness pieces, etc. Didn't find any coins but plan on going back when it gets cooler, it was 82 degrees yesterday and humid. Did manage to find these horse strap buckles that were about 6" deep and two gold rings. The one with the stone missing has Mex on the inside so I'm assuming it's Mexican gold, the other has 3 small diamonds and has 10KP GTR on the inside, whatever GTR means, I don't know. The 6" DD coil is very sensitive and works great around the trash but will use the stock coil next time I go since there are about 3 acres to search. Thanks for looking. John

Sounds like you have alot of ground to cover...........
Cheers!

Congrats on the rings! I agree on them vs the coins. I would love to find a ring.

Just wondering here. What did the rings show on the ID#? Thanks in advance, Beale.

The ring with the diamond chips hit at 9 and the mexican gold at 6. I found these inside the barn area and were 4-5" deep. I didn't think they would be foil since the XT50 showed 2-3 bars on the depth. There is one field about 1/2 mile away from this old barn that is right next to the original road that led to and from town that I will try to get permission to hunt, the old road is still used but only to get to some horse stables. This area just goes back to the 1890's. Thanks, John

You refer as"Mexican Gold"..what do you mean by that term..and how does it differ from say US Gold.Just curious !!!

10K is Karat rating of the gold. 24 K would be pure gold. So 10K is 10/24ths pure. The P stands for Plumb (or plum), meaning that the ring is exactly 10k gold, not approximately. And the letters GTR represent the Hallmark or manufacturers stamp. Some suggest that GTR is a stamp for one of the artists who designed jewelry for J.M. Fox, Inc. of Long Island City, NY. Nice finds. American jewelry seems to be a little brighter in gold color while Mexican gold looks more dull, maybe it's the alloy it's mixed with.
