6" coiltek coil or 5" sunray coil???

Hey guys.. I just got an etrac 3 days before the big northeaster US snow storm hit.. I haven't been able to use it much because there is a foot and a half of snow and 3" of ice on top. That's besides the point.. I have a coiltek Joey coil and I am concerned about the quality.. How does the 6 inch coiltek coil stack up against the 5" sunray coil.. quality, performance, sensitivity.. No Bias opinions please..

coiltek Joey coil and I am concerned about the quality. what is your concerns ? I have one Coiltek coil and love it on an XTerra. I just got an ETrac last week and got a 8x6 SEF coil. When my dealer brought my ETrac down he brought the X5 down for me to try out and it was nice but sure doesn't cover much ground and I got to swing the 8x6 SEF yesterday a bit and Think I like it better than the X5

I can only speak for the Sun Ray X5 coil that I have. It is a fantastic and amazing small but quality coil ! I would not be without one ! With that, I cannot comment on the coiltek as I have never used one . In regards to the SEF 6X8 I do have and enjoy it very much ( excellent coil ), however I consider this a midsized coil compared to the smaller X5 Stealth coil. IMHO each size of coil brings its own special qualities of each hunt. :detecting:

Can't speak for the Coiltek but my SunRay 6" Etrac combo scored plenty of silver, the coil works real good around iron too.

Not many responses to you.......my 1 cent's worth. I have not used the Coiltek. However, they have a very good reputation and many people use and love them. I personally use the Sun Ray X5 on my Etrac. I love it!!! It does a fantastic job in heavy trash. I have picked many coins and a few small jewelry pieces out from amongst a ton of close together trash targets with it. Just have to work it slow and listen.......good depth also...........TR

Used my 6" EQ 2 coil for well over 1000 hrs. - it's nothing short of fantastic - lot's of 7" to 8" dimes - what a killer coil !

I've never used the 5.5" Sunray coil, but from what I've read over the years - everyone that has one ... loves them.

Ya know,Ive had an ETrac for over 3 years now. Several times Ive started to ditch it, but decided to let it hang around because I liked it in the parks and school yards, anywhere I had to be selective about my digging. Smallest coil I had was the Sunray 8 inch (a good coil btw). I have a lot of spots that are very littered with iron, and some with iron and modern trash. But, I always used a different machine in those areas. A few of the guys on this forum and another forum talked me into the 4.5x7 excellerator coil;well,I bit. That coil changed the personality of my ETrac,it really did, something just clicked (though Ive never tried the other small coils, they may have done the same and Im sure they work well). But this coil, still has a good ground coverage (gotta remember there was a time an 8 inch coil was big) and really lets me work those tight signals. I dont lay my ETrac down now when I hit those spots. But. I feel pretty sure one of the other small coils will work out for you, Ive seen to many good post on them. I just didnt see anyone mention this coil, so I tossed it out there for you to ponder on,lol.

John

The 4.5x7 coil is my go to coil. It is amazing. I have the 6" and the x5 plus the 8x6 sef but the 4.5x7 stays on 90% of the time. It's funny that i hold on to all my coils because i don't use most of them . I just can't part with any of them lol. GS
