6" Coils

I'm planning on buying both 6" coils available. My question is for those of you that have both 6" coils. As with all of us, there are some very junky areas that I search. Will the concentric 6" be better for covering more area and not missing items than the 6" DD coil. I understand that the 6" DD is only very sensitive right in the middle. My work gets in the way of my detecting time and I want to cover the most ground possible with each sweep still using the 6" where all the junk is. Is there going to be enough of a coverage difference between the area I will be able to cover with the two 6" coils to make buying the concentric coil as well as the DD?

Thanks, John K.

The 6 inch dd coil will cover more ground per sweep. It pinpoints in the center (hot spot) just as well as a concentric coil.

John, I had both 6" coils and in my part of the country where I hunt the mineralization is very moderate. With that in mind either coil worked very well for me so I oppted to trade my 6" DD for a 5X10 Eliptical and that is my plan for covering more ground. I still have the 6"CC which as I said works good where I live and gained the eliptical for covering a little larger swath. Also the 5X10 gives me the 18.75khz. I did compare both 6" coils with an air test and found no measureable difference in depth. Just my opinion.

I use the 18.75khz dd 6er and it is a great coil for both coins/relics as well as for gold(nuggets and species).
In the last two days I found an old broach, a brass crucifix, 1929 half penny, three belt buckles(one a small snake type) and two nice species with gold in them. These were from insane junk areas that to most machines present as one giant signal. My mate was using a GP4000 and found zilch for the two outings. I think the 70 won him over. At first he laughed at the small coil "haha you wont cover much ground with that thing" but the smile and laugh soon faded as I kept coming up with the goods. No matter what setting he tried or coil he used he couldnt get a whisper out of my two species even though you could plainly see the gold. 2/3 of a gram in one and about .4 in the other. I love it when the look on their faces changes from "hehaw" to "what the....."

LOL! Awesome, BT. I can just see the look on his face.

I own the 6" DD HF. Good Coil!! Picks up what my Elliptical DD HF misses!

Thanks, Looks like I'll try the 6" DD first. If I like it, I may not get the other. Your right about the 70 being a gold pounder. I found my first piece of gold with the 5 X 10 DD last week. It was a very small piece down about 2". I'm pretty sure my PI unit would have gone right over it.

Thanks, John K
