6'' coil question

New member
Got my 50 last Friday,still tryin to figure it out.My wifes dad is in ICU 2 hours away.On Christmas we went to my parents,(10 min. away) but I didnt stray too far in case we had to go right quick,I didnt even get it out of the car.Then Wed. we went to see him,he is doin just.He had heart surgery.

Anyway,my 50 came with a 6'' coil with the package.

I cant find the freq. marked on it,how do you tell what it is?

When would that coil be used over the 9'' stock coil?

There should be an 'M' or a 'H' to indicate Medium or High Frequency... it shows just before the 5 digit serial no. towards the rear of the TOP side of your coil - same side but opposite end to the Minelab Sticker.

Stock coil is usually a Medium Frequency Coil (at least it is with the X-70). I believe that High Frequency is better for wet sand and mineralized soils which might otherwise trigger false (or no signal) on the detector.

Followup:
Page 48 of the X-Terra 70 Manual states that it can tell you which coil it is using with the press of a button. I'll assume the X-50 has a similar option. Wouldn't hurt to try and see if you also have the same feature.

1/ Press Menu Select to enter the settings screen.
2/ Press and hold Accept Reject to view the coil identification screen.
3/ Release Accept Reject to return to settings.
4/ Press Pinpoint to return to detection.

Below are the subsequent LCD readout codes and their explanation. This is how X-70 users can tell which coil is attached.

cS = Concentric Standard Frequency
cL = Concentric Low Frequency
cH = Concentric High Frequency
dS = Double D Standard Frequency
dL = Double D Low Frequency
dH = Double D High Frequency
