6" Coil hunting

Dan(NM)

Well-known member
I hunted a couple of extremely iron and trash infested sites today using the CTX and the 6" coil. I ran mostly an open screen with combined tones and little to no disc, fast on, deep off, ground coin, manual sens @ 23. I was able to get a tiny silver ring, 5 wheats and what I thought was a Levi Strauss token from one site and the 1893 V-nickle from the other. Nothing great, but it was very satisfying to find something among all the crap. The Levi Strauss thing is about the same size as a penny, but, I don't see how it was attached to any clothing. Anyway, silver of any type, plus an old nickle made the hunt well worth it. The weather is finally cooling down here and it's not quite as miserable to hunt all day thankfully.

Hey Dan,
Nice finds rescued from the Iron. Anytime you can come
away with a few keepers in thick Iron I'd call it a good day
these days. Most get FRUSTRATED but if you want to find
the leftover goods in ground, you know, we gotta remove
that Target masking rusted halos.... Glad to see you getting
out with the CTX as mine sits forever as I just can't let go
of my go to machine but we won't get into that. Gearing up here
as I've been away from detecting for awhile but got the FEVER
back. Good hunting...

Thank you and welcome back to the fold and good luck to ya!!

The CTX with proper coil has been a magic wand for me. Patience is needed with any of the coils especially the 6. I'm just learning where to use it,I thought it was unnecessary before. I was really off on that one....nice going on using it for what it was meant!

Good hunt in the trash Dan . Try this the next time your there . High trash 4 tone conductive use Andy's coin pattern but with the fe line at 29 set your nickel bin and high conductor bin high tone 1000 hz now everything above the 29 line well go to the bin the fe and conduct #s match . No geo tracking target trace sensitivity #s or anything else enabled . Set your pinpoint mode to target trace sizing fast on and long for sound .

High trash is the fastest mode between targets to check targets go to your user button with your settings to check . Now with pinpoint sizing in target trace there's no loss of processor speed when searching and you still have target trace to check targets . The 6 is much faster than the stock coil see's 7 times less ground than the stock coil which eats up processor speed now going to long audio there is no blanking between targets like normal your going to get a null going over iron but with long enabled there's no blanking between targets takes a while to understand but worth it also makes those chirps easier to understand .

I use this when I am just using audio and not looking at the screen till I find a target the 29 fe line is the last # that a good target will give audio when tight with iron once you get to say 30 .45 only target trace will show a good target that's covered with iron and no audio . There's no need for combine because you have the iron disc out your not loosing speed by having a null or having a grunt by being in combine . Since your in a heavy trash area speed is important this gives a better chance with targets close together no screen watching just audio . Give it a shot sube

On the fe line set at 29 made a mistake can't have a fe line in 4 conduct all boxes below fe line 29 and line 29 disc out sorry .This makes most iron go dead a null which let's you concentrate on the high tones . Since your using long for audio coming off a null to a good target well have the best chance of hearing it because of the no blanking such as in normal for audio sube

Nice finds!!!

How deep did you find does coins with 6 inch coil?

Most of the stuff was shallow, deepest being the V-nickle, maybe 5" deep. I have dug pulltabs at 8" with the 6" coil which was very impressive.

Ok sube, You've come along way over the last few years and your doing a great job testing out different setups of the technology, I've seen a lot of your posts and your English is getting much better too but it still takes a bit of translation in terms of your grammar, no worries as most of the posts on here including mine are usually poor grammar...I think we all type way to fast as if were conversing and don't review our written words much. Any way I should say thank you for putting so much good effort into the CTX to try and test different facets of the Machine. Any way... I am very interested in your setting. Let me throw something at you. i don't mean to steel this line of posts but would rather say it here than start a new thread. Here is my question/s to you:
If you are on say a saltwater beach, loaded with iron...I mean like a ghost town iron infested site, and there are good targets for sure at or deeper than 10 inches, as most everything above that is picked over, than how would the 17 inch coil fair with your suggested settings being a larger coil with a bigger read of the iron below it? I have to use the larger coil to get the depth...and it does work, but i'm reading a lot of iron still and the iron goes down some times in chunks to 2 feet in easy to dig sand.

Im going to try your above stated suggestion anyway but wanted to see if you suggest anything different in this case. OH yea one more thing...theres a ton TON of black sand and yes, it sends back the reflection at the coil too.

I hope you see this post. and anyone else who feels so willing to give this scenario a try please do so.

Thanks,
Shov.

Would like to know what settings you are using now . What depth are you able to get a dime at using the 17 inch coil . Are you in manual or auto sensitivity if in auto dose your sensitivity #s change a lot or very little , meaning is the ground consistent . The reason I ask is because black sand can be heavy in one spot wave action and relatively consistent on the rest of the beach . sube
