6.59 950 Pancake Coil is phenomenal....

at depth, separation, stability, ease of swinging, accuracy. Another example of a "stock" coil that is difficult to improve upon for a best all around coil. As I wait for the weather to warm I look at it sitting in the corner and think of all the great things it has found. I cannot wait to visit with my old friend in the spring...between the IDX and Explorer I have 7 coils. The 950 pancake is my overall favorite...not the most capable everywhere, but favorite in general. It really is a pleasure to use,and why I'm partial to concentric coils. If only the Explorer had a coil like that!
Cmon spring!!

Not sure if your aware or not but there is a 8" concentric coil for the Explorers . I think it's called Detect Excellerator . GS

I would agree that the older low profile 950 is much better than the later thicker 950.. more sensetivity too...

I have Ben using a 950 on my m6 for the past three years and it's a proven gold and silver finder way a pair it makes.:thumbup

IDX,

I have several 6.59 kHz 950 coils, they are safely stored away, too big for my trashy areas. I will admit that the 950 coil works well with the slow sweep, fast response, quick recovery of the IDX Pro that I have. I like the 8 inch coils on all my 6.59 kHz White's machines especially on my faster swing 4 filter machines like the 5900 CB and 6000 Pro XL. The smaller coils work great in the trash on the IDX Pro, those being the 4" Blue Max "snooper" 350,,the 5½" Hot Head Ferret and the 6½" BullsEye.

Randy-I look from time to time on different sites for the Ferret coil, just doesn't seem to be around anywhere. Either they've been used to death or small numbers produced I take it? From what you've said that would be another contender in the garbage....

It took me 7 years to find a good Hot Head Ferret, lucked out and found one last year. The 6½" Blue Max 600, Black Max 5.3, and 5.3 BullsEye are nearly as good, just not as deep or separate as well. The little 4" Blue Max 350 is on par with the Ferret as far as separation goes, just not as deep. The Ferret will air test a dime at 8" and go that deep in the ground, great coil if you can find one.
