5x8 vs 8.5x11 coils

I'm wondering about the main differences noted between these two coils. Aside from the fact that the 5x8 is lighter is there any other big difference. I know the obvious, a bigger coil covers more ground, but does the 8.5x11 detect much deeper? Is one quieter? Since they are both double D I'm guessing they are fairly similar in their operation. Any thoughts from those folks who have and used both coils.
Thanx

I am not sure about depth I am still able to find coins down to 8 to 10 inches with both. The 5 X 8 works better in trashy areas I sometimes hunt. I have just been using mine about a month so maybe someone who has had more time can chime in.

I going to do a depth test on my three Garett detectors this week. Reason being i been using the 5x8 coil on AT Pro since January, coins just starting to run out in my coin hot spot which has given over 300 coins in a year.
The AT Gold showed up in the mail last week, ran it in all metal mode as i was told that it goes deeper in that mode than AT Pro does,so i took it out there with its 5x8, not finding much, so put the 11 inch coil on it and so far in two short detects 9 coins going back over a small area i hunted already.
Those coins were various depths, some 1 inch down but about 4 of them where 5 to 8 inches down. Got me wondering is the 5x8 in my soil going 5 inches down? Was it me or the coil that missed those coins last time over that ground?
I really like the 5x8 as i work a relic trash, old rusty soil area but if i missing coins then i will stick with the 11 inch coil and swing slower.

I've found that even with the 5x8 in trash I need to slow way down on the swing to ferret out the good stuff. I've made finds to 6 or 7 inches with the 5x8 easy even with lots of trash around.

Ive been wondering myself what the difference is in depth between the two coils. Seems like there should theoretically be a difference in depth , but some have said they find coins at seven or eight inches with the 5x8 , which should be the probable max effective depth of the larger one. I guess what we should be concentrating on is how deep they seem to work WITH accurate target ID , ....anybody know from experience what the max depths with these two coils are while also being accurate with the ID and disc ?

The reason Im asking is past a certain depth most coils can still find things but the ID and discrimination will be off , high conductive targets start to read as lower conductive ones , etc.

Ive been looking into getting the AT pro but Id like to find one that comes with only the 5x8 coil. If there is a significant loss in depth , or accuracy in the 7 to 8 inch range then that makes it look less appealing and Id have to stick with the larger coil.

i was wondering the depth of the two coils and how each machine compared with depth so made this
