5x8 coil...must buy?

Thinking of snatching me up an at pro, 5x8 a must have or does the standard coil work just as well? This will be a water machine mostly if that makes a difference.

If your spots are trashy then yes you need it. The stock coil does a great job as well.

I had my best day to date with the 5x8 on my AT Pro...Trashy area wih some hot rocks..and pulled 5 silvers and 10 wheats ..this area was pounded with other detectors before..

I generally hunt parks and schools along with fresh water river/lake hunting in the summer. One thing I love to dig out is jewelry, preferably gold type jewelry. I was taught smaller coils are more sensitive to jewelry and the 5X8 DD was easier to navigate through the trashy type areas easier than the larger coil. For me the 5X8 is to navigate through water. The 8.5X11 will cover a greater area than the 5X8. The question is; do want to cover more area? Consider the 5X8 along with lower shaft and hardware as an addition to your arsenal, it makes changing coils a quick simple process. Your time is better spent swinging your machine. I also recently got the Super Sniper coil. It more than paid for itself the first time I went out experimenting with it. The AT Pro with those three coils is very formidable. I don't believe a one coil fits all sites approach would be the best. I think being prepared for pretty much anything you may come across (detecting site wise)the better chance you have of finding and recovering what ever coin/treasure you are searching for. Hopefully others will offer you their experiences with the different coils.

the smaller the coil the more it forces you to slow down and hunt also..and that equals better success too..good luck and HH!

The 5"x8" rarely comes off my ATs, it is excellent in the trashy areas around here. I'd say it's well worth the investment if you hunt trashy areas, rocky or woodsy areas (easier to get in between), and I've heard some of the water hunters say that they found it easier to swing, though I haven't had a chance to hunt in deeper water yet.

What's the weight difference between the stock coil and the 5X8? After swinging the Omega, the stock coil on the AT feels nose heavy.

Huge difference in weight. The 5x8 is a feather weight.

The 5x8 coil does an excellent job in farm fields and parks. It's light and gets between the trash!

would have saved me alot of headaches the last few weeks when I was doing alot of fresh water hunting. So many big rocks to move the coil around, the 5x8 would have been a blessing in these conditions enabling me to get into tight spots, crevices and cracks. With all the loot I have found with the stock coil though I'm not far from from purchasing the 5x8 coil and can't wait........SHOW ME THE MONEY!
Cheers!
