5x8 coil issues

Im new to this so if yall have suggestions im all ears. Yesterday I went hunting in miniralized ground reading 85 on the balance. I attempted to start my test garden and placed the first quarter at 6". The ground also is very rocky imagine mixing dirt and gravel. My 5x8 coil at max sensitivity in pro zero wouldn't see it. My standard coil did. I was about to hunt an old homestead so I really wanted the smaller coil. Im thinking I may need the bigger coil in this hot soil due to interference. Also had ghosting a couple times through the day.

Also my coil cover for 5x8 sags in the middle a couple millimeters where as my standard fits flush. Is that normal on 5x8 or should i contact Garrett?

Coins buried freshly in a test garden will read poorly. That's the norm. Add to that some mineralization, and it gets a bit worse. Once the coin has developed a halo mix around it (oxides from the coin) it will read much better. This can take a couple of years. You can speed up the process by pouring a normal saline solution on top of the coin (after you have buried it) occasionally. I am not sure about your description about the coil sagging slightly in the center. I removed my coil cover on my 5 x 8 coil and noticed about 1 mm of a raised section in the center also. I think it's just the resin. It doesn't affect the operation of the coil.

Awesome thanks for the reply. Id hope that even being freshly burrow at only 6 inches the 5x8 would read it. The standard saw it just fine. I was thinking with it being so rocky that may effect it on top of high mineralization
