5x8 coil for AT Pro

Maine 47

New member
I just ordered the 5X8 coil for the AT Pro. I have read many posts that this is better than the stock one in certain situations.

I am wondering if there is anything that I should do or do different when using the 5X8.

I have heard that the depth reduction is very minimal. Has anybody done a test to show the difference?

I would like to hear any pros and cons about it.

Can't wait to get it hooked up and out swinging when it arrives!

Just USE it! Low and slow in the trashiest areas you can find.

Read the threads here on it. No cons, super in trash and iron patches. Good depth for its size about 5" on a dime in my soil. The big stock does go deeper. When we say you don't lose much depth it is relative, so many places being able to punch down 5 or 6 inches will be sufficient and the small coil may see most of those targets at that depth. I'm working a place that is not very trashy but most all the coins are over 5" and I'm pulling quarters and 1/2 dollars from 6 to 9". Sometimes I actually take the time to measure when I know I did not disturb the target by digging. You need the small coil so you can be versatile.

I did a series of air test recently between various coils. Although results will very in the ground, you at least get an idea on how the coils compare with each other.

How did the stock AT Pro coil do?

The stock coil does fine. I have found coins 8+ inches down

If you hunt a lot of parks and school yards there is a lot of trash.

Sometimes you can't get a clear sound or reading because of the overlap of the larger coil also picking up some trash due to its size.

I hope with a smaller coil I can get around some of the trash.
