I agree with Bart. I sold my 6" x 9" concentric and have my stock coil collecting dust since I starting using the 5" x 8" DD. It hits harder than the large coil in my soil.
I'm pretty new to the AT-PRO but it sounds like I lucked out when I bought it. It came with the 5X8 and the 6.5X9 concentric and have just been running the 5X8 and am finding plenty. I still haven't found any silver. I've only been running 4 bars sensitivity in Pro Zero and 30 to 35 disc. I really like the detector and know it will produce for me. HH
Guess I'll kind of be the contrarian here. I say kind of because to me the AT Pro is a great detector with either DD coil.
But if I could only have one coil for the AT Pro it would be the 8X11.
Don't get me wrong, I think the 5X8 is an excellent coil and I wouldn't want to be without it in heavy trash areas.
But the bigger coil gets used on my AT Pro a good 2/3 of the time because of the increased coverage area, better depth, and the fact that the 8X11 has excellent separation for a bigger coil.
I think it depends on what kind of area you're hunting. I haven't used the 5x8 on the AT Pro enough to compare it, but I've been taking the AT Gold down to the creek lately. When I got my AT Pro last fall, I took it down there a few times and just about gave up - it's just solid rotten iron of all sizes and trash of all kinds. I think experience is half the difference, but I sure love the way the AT Gold with the 5x8 picks out copper & silver from in between the trash, and I often use all 44 points of iron discrimination - the big iron still sounds off, of course. Viva la difference!
