5x10 elliptical vs. 5" round -- anyone compared depth?

Hi all --

Curious to know if anyone has checked the depth of these two coils (5" vs. the 5x10) on a known in-ground target (such as a coin in a test garden). I am curious to see if anyone has any data showing whether the 5x10 is "deeper" than the 5" coil, and if so, by how much. I'm sure it is not as deep as the 11" -- probably closer to the 5", but wanted to see what some folks who have used both have found out...

Thanks,

Steve

I haven't actually put the two up against each other head to head but I found it unbearable to hunt parks with the 5". Even the 5x10 for me is sometimes too much in a clean park. We have to remember we are dealing with gold machines and by that I mean micro gold capable(earring backs and such). The 5 for me is primarily just for prospecting. I have even found earring backs with the 11 dd on many occasions.
I know I'm not answering your question well or at all LOL but do want to say I have been blown away by the depth of some targets I have pulled with the 5 " it is one great little coil and the 5x10 to me just as sharp and covers twice the ground.
Take care!
Jim

I appreciate the thoughts, Jim. I hear you on the small targets these things will find. The 5" coil doesn't do as well in my particular soil, in disc. mode. It does great in all-metals mode, but in disc. mode my soil (irony red clay) limits the depth it can achieve. My 11" coil does much better, in this soil. I just dug a small piece of .22 lead the other day, that was between 9 and 10" deep...that was impressive, to me, for such a small piece of lead...

I thought I saw this posted here a few weeks ago but could'nt find it. I hope the link works. This guy tested all 3 coils in separate videos.
